I have to say that the PM of New Zealand is such a passionate advocate for all NZ'ers, especially refugees and her stern condemnation of the violence, the intolerance and how this is the opposite of who they are. She is angry and calling out extremism, regardless of where it comes from. She says they were chosen because they are not a country of extremists and how she will not let this change who they are. This is so bizarre/surreal. I’m an American and I’m currently in my 3rd out of 7 weeks student teaching abroad in Auckland, NZ. It feels like this shit is following me. It is heartbreaking to see how shook the people here are from this. Don’t get me wrong, 49 dead is massive even by US standards but we’ve become so numb to it compared to what I’m seeing here.
The school I’m at here in NZ is so free and open, there’s huge windows and the kids get to run around everywhere, so much different from what I see in the States. It would be a real shame if this whole culture would have to change because of these fucking scum bags.
