I'm not making my mind up about anything until I see who is actually on the primart ballot in my state. That requires signatures. I have not yet been approached in front of any grocery stores for any signatures. I wonder what each candidate is doing to build their state organizations.

Is "America will NOT be socialist" enough to defeat any of these candidates?  It's picking up a lot of momentum and I think apolitical Americans are likely to be scared by that (moreso that authoritarianism).

So who's the best candidate to try to counter that?  Joe Biden-Basic old moderate democrat?  Someone like Klobuchar?  Or should the Dems just steer into the skid and nominate Bernie and watch him debate his intellectual inferior on the very topic?

I tend to think Biden, but that doesn't account for his failure of the purity test that sends a lot of the hard left to vote 3rd.

Maybe it doesn't matter.  Maybe the GOP d to just keeps screaming "socialist" and that's really enough for an easy Trump win.

Fuck it, throw the hail mary; nominate Kamala or Booker and hope for the n-bomb (though that might not be enough, anyway).
If we’re gonna throw a Hail Mary, I’m going with Buddha/Abrams.
I still think Biden/Bernie would be interesting.

    150 years of life experience!

Age aside, that would be interesting.  It would show unity between two parts of the party and, assuming the hard left could live with the VP role, might be the best combo to keep people from staying at home.

I seriously doubt Bernie ever bowing down to Biden and take a VP slot.

Not as his age, when he can't advance to President in 8 years.

Who knows? But I actually think his age is a reason to do it. How much longer does he have in the senate? Why not help out and beat Trump? That’s the most important thing.

    Lol
IDK, I think Bernie has shown some discipline this cycle. I thought he was pretty respectful and patient in the first debate. But you’re right, and as Biden puts it, him and his vp need to be “simpatico”.
IDK, I feel like Biden/Bernie would generate a lot of enthusiasm on the campaign trail.

I guess they wouldn't widen their demographic and all that jazz - but seeing Warren and Bernie tag team would be amazing.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, lol. Sometimes I feel like Biden and Bernie won’t even make it out of the debates alive. Warren and Bernie? Seems risky, not sure they could win.

I think not having a person of color on the ticket is pretty risky.  Biden/Harris (if she didn't burn the bridge), Biden/Booker, Warren/Booker, etc.  You get the picture.

Biden announces his healthcare.  It's similar to what we discussed here months ago, allowing people to exit their private insurance and enter a paid medicare market.  Here are some bullets and a link to a WashPo about it.  I"m not sure I like bullet two, because it appears to reward citizens in states that refuse to expand medicare.  Now maybe there's some sort of penalty on the state gov't that isn't in the high level summary.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/07/15/joe-biden-proposes-radical-leftist-health-care-plan/?utm_term=.a61c7120fe6d

    • Create a public option “like Medicare” that would be open to anyone, including those who currently have insurance through their employer.
    • In Republican states that refused to expand Medicaid, allow all eligible people to get the new public option for free.
    • Automatically enroll low-income people in Medicaid or the public option when they interact with the government.
    • Increase ACA subsidies to make insurance more affordable.
    • Force drug companies to negotiate prices with Medicare.

Biden can negotiate with big pharma all he wants. These companies know how to gouge, laugh and flip the bird. And if necessary, bribe Biden.  Uh I meant donate millions to his campaign

A fix to the exorbitant drug prices paid by americans to american drug companies would be to implement a price control that would limit prices to 105% of the average rate paid to the drug company by the 20 largest non american countries.

Edit, that's a nice free market solution. It allows americans to pay the rate that big pharma already negotiated freely with foreign countries.
Cynicism on drug prices noted.  What about the rest of the plan, compared to the plan of others?

I think Biden is correct. If Warren or Sanders win the nomination and campaign on forced Medicare for all, our prize will be 4 more years of the sex trafficking racist.

IIRC Sanders beat Hillary by a wide margin there as he is from a neighboring state.

Given that context Biden +5 is a decent showing. Warren tied with Sanders is scary. She is almost a guarantee to lose to Trump if she gets to the general.

Yeah, honestly I would expect Biden to come in third in NH.  Being in first has always been surprising.

Should be no surprise, vote split between Sanders and Warren.

The longer those two split the vote, the better off Biden will be.

Show me the evidence. That's not what the polling shows.

True, they share the same lane.  I think there's some overlap with Biden and Buttigieg/Harris as well, although probably a more diverse coalition.  Warren and Sanders are the obvious ones.

The more Biden has to apologize for this that and the other thing the more his numbers drop.  He's toast.   Kamala's strategy sure is working.

I think Biden is our only chance to return to some normalcy as a nation. And his VP choice can’t come from this field for him to have a chance.  That is my current assessment as of 7/18/19.

I cant even watch the news for the last week as Washington has gone completely off the rails.

Just need to get Biden a shock collar that his handlers can activate when he is about to stick his foot in his mouth.

I agree that Biden is the dems best chance.
But the young and vibrant candidates are going to continue to get him booed off the stage. It's simple for them anything and everything he says, they can just go back over 42 years of sound bites and videos and find something where he's contradicting himself, said the opposite of what he's saying today, lip-flopping.
How is he going to overcome that?

I saw the California-Iowa hippie, dippy, crystal lady on CNN last night and Anderson asked her to comment on her words during the debate in how to defeat Team Trump Treason after playing the debate clip. She went into a Long soliloquy about how Team Trump Treason is driven by hate but that her campaign can be driven by love because way more people love than hate and she went on and on about the love, and then she starts throwing out bible verses and Jesus and love and the impression I was left with was it felt and sounded like a mix of evangelical with Jim Jones cultish undertones. No thanks (shudder).
