Unprompted, my 8-year-old son randomly  started singing Mankind yesterday.  :)

I catch my 5 year old son saying, “Alexa, play Pearl Jam” on a regular basis. It’s awesome.
  • I will never get the chance to be a dad. Or a mom.
"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"
  • My 4 year old still calls them "Pro Jam"
Close enough.  I do enjoy that when a slow tune comes on he yells "Alexa, next song please!"

My 5 year old sings Tom Petty, "wont back down" all the time.

Its not PJ but its still awesome.

  • When we get into the car my 3 year old demands pearl jam, specifically evenflow, then sings along. He's started wanting his pearl jam tshirt on a lot of the time now too

It was about 2 weeks ago, we were leaving my kid's soccer game, when my two boys (9 and 4) were in the backseat singing along to the Alive chorus when it came on the radio. I was surprised, and asked them how they knew this song, as I typically change this song when in the car, and they usually listen to pop songs with my wife. They just said, "I don't know, we just do" but couldn't tell me who sings it. (They guessed Green Day and Imagine Dragons). I got home, told my wife, and she laughed saying that her and my 7 year old daughter had the same channel on, and were also singing to it. I got a nice feeling from that moment.

Using the first initials of the names of my family, we have taken to calling ourselves "Team B.A.M." Then, a couple months ago, our then 3-year-old said she wants us to be "Team Pearl Jam!" And she always adds a second syllable to "Jam" to make it "Jay-um"...

  • My 4 year old's pre school teacher told me my son was singing a song with a bad word in it. I asked him what he was singing, and he said "Drop the Leash." I couldn't help but smile. His teacher looked at me with disgust lol

When my five year old daughter was three she had a hard time with Vedder. She still calls him “Eddie Buttercup” and laughs hysterically every time after she says it. My wife, son, and I usually follow suit with laughter.

I am going to pre-caveat this with don't worry about me, don't feel like you need to say sorry or give me condolences because this brings me a lot of happiness to actually think about.

My boy, who had a challenging life of illness, learning disabilities, medical interventions, etc,  he loved music, really loved musicals.  But there was one Pearl Jam song he would always tell me to put back on and not let me hit skip.  When a song came on if someone tried to skip it or turn the dial if he liked it he would say "Hey, I like that song..."  and so we would almost always put it back on for him, because hey everyone deserves a little indulgence.

With PJ it was Daughter.  That song has taken a bit of deeper special meaning to me since his passing.  It is the one little link he and I have with the band.

I was working out in the basement the other day. My 5 year old son came down and starting playing on his sister’s gymnastics bar. I was listening to music, but not PJ. He looks at me and says “Dad, put on Pearl Jam please. It really helps me focus.”

We have an almost 4 year old son who essentially does a whole dance routine to footsteps. At least 6 times a week. It’s awesome

    Seattle 1 & 2, Missoula, Wrigley 1 & 2

  • One time last year my kid (then 2) asked to see a video of Pearl Jam, so I pulled up Pinkpop or something on my phone. He scowled at it for a while and then asked, "what he saying?" Ah, the eternal question...
But anyway, he's 3 now and requests Pearl Jam every time we put on music around the house. Sometimes he'll settle for Soundgarden.

last night my son was singing to the tune of Smile, "Free cookies and swirls all around!" (rather than "Three crooked hearts, swirls all around")

I'm still chuckling about that one.
