Vault Series question

Does anyone know who picks the shows that they release? Just asking because I know for a fact there are plenty of shows the band has played that are a million times better than the stuff thats getting released. I heard the new Vault #8 show and its mediocre at best. At this point I'd love for them to release a "classic" show (i.e. Atlanta 94, Randalls Island 96, MSG 98.etc.) but then I'd be worried it would be incomplete for some reason. I love the sound and the packaging of these records, hopefully the next release will be a great performance as well.

I think I read an article where jeff said he was going through shows for it

I actually dont want the classic shows like Atlanta 94, Berlin 96 released.  So many random great shows during the 90s.  I want a different Europe 96 show or maybe an Australian 98 show (not 3/5/98)

You can count on most shows prior to 2000 being incomplete.  The band and Brett Eliason have stated as much.  Not by choice, just by circumstance.  MSG night 2 98 would be awesome even if incomplete.  The thing is I don't believe they could fit that show onto 3 LPs without cutting some portions of it.  Randall's Island Night 1 would be worth getting on vault because there are no good audience sources to really speak of at all.  Night 2 I don't see ever coming out unless heavily edited.  In addition, there was some unfortunate foreshadowing of what would happen at Roskilde a few years later, I don't know the band would feel great about that release. There are very good complete audience recordings of that show.

Definite NO to any of the massively circulated pre-FM bootlegs.

I can agree with that. The reason I said the classic shows is because we know they’re complete and great. Europe 96 would be awesome.

I worry that they’ll just go for another easy release and do Berlin 96.

The thing that's a bit "stale" about Pearl Jams live releases (compared to other artists) is that they pretty much kept the same format and layout of songs since the beginning. The shows have gotten longer, the songs more etc. But except for the first few tours their shows are pretty similar.

Compared to other artists - like e.g. Neil Young who's been mixing up how to do concerts through his career. He's played acoustic and electric, and he's done some tours where he's implemented some unique elements. Even something like using a choir for a tour etc.

So what I'm saying is -- RERELEASE BENAROYA!

Vegas '93 and Soldier Field '95 come to mind as there were already great quality bootlegs of these shows in circulation.

    For vinyl lovers? Sure.
    For me? Not worth it.

Those are the two I listen to least.  I'm still pissed that solider field is incomplete. that version of blood on vinyl would have been siiiiiick.

Vegas, bellingham, soldier field and Missoula all had been previously mixed and released in some form. To me the idea of the vault is to release an rare gem that wasn’t widely available.

Vegas appeared to be an F U to the bootleggers who were about to release a Vegas 93 LP.

The best Vault is LA 98.  Complete surprise. Great show

Agreed. I like how Bruce does a good mix between legendary shows as releasss but also ones that flew under the radar for his vault shows every month.

I was suprised they picked the Missoula show for the vault release...it’s a good show but not really on par with the other vaults. It should have been my first show but for reasons I don’t remember I didn’t go , was just getting into the band at the time.

The doubly disappointing thing was, they have a high quality source, so while I get not pressing that non multi track source on vinyl, why the hell release at as an MP3!?!?!?!?

Bellingham?  It had two tracks released across the Light Years singles variations.  That was a good release.  While there has always been a very nice audience recording available for that show, that is a very good Vault release.

Soldier Field was nice because it was upgrade off the tinny and shallow MONO-FM releases.  It was a huge bummer that it was incomplete.

I have a hard time with incomplete shows. They should pick something else to release if a show has to be incomplete IMO.

Bellingham was played years ago on Sirius radio when the PJ channel launched. People recorded it, and it’s been available on PJ bootleg sites since.

if they went this route you are not getting anything prior to 2000 most likely then.  Even 9.19.98 is technically incomplete.
