    WOW!

Attorney Michael Avenatti charged with extortion by federal prosecutors in New York

Michael Avenatti, the high profile critic of President Trump, was charged Monday by federal prosecutors with trying to extort Nike by threatening to issue damaging allegations against the company unless it paid his client millions.

The charges mark the latest and most remarkable chapter in the strange public saga of the California lawyer who has represented Stormy Daniels, an adult-film actress who was paid to keep quiet during the 2016 presidential campaign about her alleged sexual tryst with Trump several years ago.

That case catapulted Avenatti to cable television news fame, but prosecutors now say he threatened to use that platform to extract money from the company.

Authorities charge Avenatti threatened to hold a press conference on the eve of the NCAA basketball tournament to reveal damaging allegations against the firm unless it paid his client $1.5 million and agreed to hire Avenatti and another lawyer for $15 to $25 million to conduct an “internal investigation” into the allegations.

The charging document said that Avenatti proposed another alternative to hiring him to conduct an investigation — “a total payment of $22.5 million from Nike to resolve any claims (the client) might have and additionally to buy Avenatti’s silence.”

Who exactly loved him? I ask this because other than Fox News suggesting he was the Democrats' new darling, I never heard anyone say anything positive about him.

I remember Hannity once suggesting that he could be the Democrats' 2020 nominee! I couldn't help but laugh. I think Hannity is good at what he does (brainwashing morons) but even the dumbest of the dumb wouldn't buy that one.

Avenatti was signaling he would run.

    Trump became president.

Don't see what's so crazy about that "fearmongering" from Hannity.

He's a pornstar's lawyer...and that's about it. How could anyone think he could really run for President? Even Hannity himself had to laugh about that one after the cameras stopped rolling.

But HE was talking about a 2020 run and going around "the greatest country in the world" checking on the interest... so, ofc that would be mentioned around that time...

a two page thread that is several months old? don't think that indicates lots of people here loved the guy. there was initial excitement when he claimed he had dirt on DT that would bring him down. that quickly turned to skepticism with zero delivery and his name disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

he mentioned a 2020 run, which is why you saw people mention it. they weren't mentioning it because they thought it was a good idea, from what I recall.

I find this a little weird... I mean, does Avenatti have a screw loose or what? He would have known that Nike would consult lawyers once he put such a demand on the table, and knows the law... Why would he not assume that it was likely he's get busted for extortion? I dunno, it always amazes me what some of these powerful men think they can get away with, but then I remember, "oh yeah. They have been getting away with tons of shit for years and years, why wouldn't they think they could get away with more?" It's still extraordinary for them to get caught/called out, not for them to be doing stuff like this.

Well he must really dumb if you capitalized it. But at least he's perceived by some people to be a smart, successful businessman (again, perceived) and has rubbed elbows with the likes of the Clintons over the years. So it's somewhat reasonable for him to slither his way into the White House. Avenatti? Please...

He really does seem dumb (Trump, not Avenatti). And I don't think it was reasonable at all that he was able to slither into the White House. It's absolutely appalling that America let that happen.

Some of you give America too much credit. In a country where Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are influential people, Donald Trump SHOULD be the president of the country. He's just like them except he wears a suit. I've said it from the beginning: he's not he president we need, but he's the president we deserve. All of us are to blame for him, not just the morons that voted for him. We've all created an America where this can happen.

Why do you think?  You do not actually think criminals actually think the entire process through? Clowns like this never consider the possibility of rotting in jail.  People like you and me...well we would consider the possibility of jail as not being appealing...those thoughts never enter criminals minds.

See and that's argument for Trump not being dumb. He's been a criminal for like 40 years and has (so far) avoided prison time. At lunch at work today, someone mentioned something about stupid criminals (I'm a probation officer by the way) and how if they were smart criminals, they wouldn't be on probation. I said, "Yeah, they could President."

Another odd Avenati story.  How could he (and fucking Mark Geragos) go this far?  Obviously NY thinks they have evidence to charge him so this can't just be a misunderstanding among lawyers.

    Really fucking weird

He really does seem dumb (Trump, not Avenatti). And I don't think it was reasonable at all that he was able to slither into the White House. It's absolutely appalling that America let that happen.
It’s prob about time that you come to terms with the fact that Trump happened.  But either way, Avenatti is pretty dumb, too,  I told you ao when you liked him months ago, even after he failed to pay penalties in a case where he was found guilty. Then he repped a porn star whose case was thrown out. Then he got charged with extortion. Sleazebag puts it kinda  mildly.

He and Trump could tour the country together.
