since they were charity shows i imagine they don't count in their tour gross.

If you're still wondering why they keep playing these hyped up, merch-crazed ballpark shows instead of more shows at better venues, stop wondering.

Yeah, seems like this is the future. Smaller tours/bigger shows. Makes sense. Crazy that they made that much with just 5 shows.

I hope you're wrong, because I would really like to see PJ again.... I mean, I'm sure they won't just cut out every city that doesn't have a big arena to play in.... and there are many cities where they couldn't sell this many tickets. Not even close. Sometimes they struggle to sell out a hockey arena. Or at least they did the last time they did an arena tour. But I'm sure they're not going to just play a handful of cities where they can actually pull of numbers like they do at Wrigley and Fenway, etc. I mean... that would basically be semi-retirement. But they're working on a new album. So that seems unlikely.

Yeah, o2 in London (which is still a large arena) made only half of what they earned at Fenway.

I think they are smart to do what they are foing even though I’d much prefer more shows. They found a way to work less, cut costs and make more money. All the branded home/away themed merchandise really makes some dough for them. Plus, let’s be honest, the band is not the same draw they were 15 years ago, they’ll still sell tickets but they’re not going to sell out a 60 show tour.  Tell people you’re going to see pearl jam and you’ll likely get the “they’re still around?” response. Either way, keep coming back to Montana so I can see you in my back yard, thanks,

I think they'll still hit places all over, especially when supporting a new record. But I'd also expect more things like this year when they are a year+ out from a new record. 

But I could see them do 2 nights at Tropicana Field but then thats it for all of Florida.

Every one of the ballpark shows - in 2013, in 2016, in 2018 - has felt like a special occasion. If those shows become all the band plays in the U.S., that feeling will disappear. They have done a great job creating a mystique around their live show over the years and they have to recognize this is true. I just don't see a scenario where they only play ballparks from now on.

I for one love the stadium shows.  Yes I wish I could see them in smaller arenas, but I love going to Fenway to see them.  Other than the lines to get in, it is a blast.  Oh I also wouldn't be surprised if they made more money off merch than they do with tickets.

I'm very tired of all the baseball themed merch that these ballpark "tours" create. I'm starting to feel like Eddie is shoving baseball down my throat... and I actually like baseball!

The idea that they are done playing anything but big ballpark shows is a bit ludicrous.  Yes if they are only going to do a handful of shows they make a lot of sense, because it provide more overall access, but bands of their stature and tenure tour sheds and arenas all the time.

Agreed.   Now there is this spring training festival.  I guess us die hard PJ fans don’t need to be embarrassed after all these years if Ed is still obsessed with his Cubs.

Get that album out, do a proper arena tour (much like 2013-2014....couple legs lasting a few weeks at a time). Then, some time off before hitting stadiums again (summer of 2020 or 2021)?

I just hope Pearl Jam plays Lucas Oil Stadium sometime in the next couple of years to close out a tour so the Colts can go ahead and win another super bowl.  seems to work with baseball.

If you want more Montana shows better get everyone you know to vote for Tester.

I hope Tester wins today but this is what happens when they play places with low population. 

When Pearl Jam plays NYC its the toughest ticket of any show to come thru town, by a country mile.  

They would sell out those 60 shows at MSG

Yeah, I agree. But historically they played here before Tester at the same rate so it’s not impossible to keep that going. Voting for Tester today, I’m traditionally a conservative, but I have liked what Tester has done in our state and I have no complaints.plus I have a hard time voting for a guy that had had trump and trump jr. here campaigning for him.
