DB Faile poster, DB Cooper, and 8/10/2018 Seattle

This poster isn't getting much love and doesn't seem to be very popular.  Many of you already know and some of you don't know the legend of DB Cooper.

I feel that this poster is incredibly cool, especially if you are aware of the legendary 1971 Portland to Seattle flight which was hijacked.  Yeah, it's old news...but it was a hot topic again here in the Pacific Northwest due to a new claim in June 2018 about the real identity of DB Cooper.  Story here:  http://www.nwnewsnetwork.org/post/we-might-have-been-looking-db-cooper-wrong-place-all-these-years

Secondly, and quite scary, there was the airplane that was stolen the night of 8/10/2018 from the Seattle airport which flew around, was diverted by military planes, and crashed into an island not far from Safeco Field.

With these two factors in mind, why is this poster not legendary?  Just curious.

  • I've been thinking the same thing - amazing poster, amazing (and relevant subject) and also amazing artist ...I guess the West Coast isn't too familiar with Faile either
  • I love the DB Cooper story and this print just does nothing for me.  I know you love it and think it's legendary but sometimes you just gotta accept that your opinion on something isn't the popular one.

  • Art is subjective that’s all. The masses don’t love it. It might be my favorite poster of the Home Shows honestly.
  • I’ve got four of the five home show posters. It’s my favorite. Not sure why.

No doubt, I'm a DB Cooper geek.  I've been interested in the story for years.  I even have drinks in the Portland bar (used to be called the Eastbank) where DB Cooper supposedly was last seen just before the hijacking.
I have no issues with people who don't like the colors, the "Pe Arl Jam" print, or don't care about the backstory.  I just wondered if the majority of poster collectors know the meaning.  (just like how I probably don't get half of the Boston or Chicago references on those posters.  I was the idiot who asked why there was an owl on the Chicago Jackson poster.  And it's clearly not an owl.  ha ha).

Totally agree.  Fascinating story, mediocre poster.
  • I like it a lot and would have bought it if I had been there. I don't get why the EMEK is not more popular either. Thought that was a great print too.

I agree.  I think it's incredible, especially as an MC Escher fan. When I was in the merch line and considering which of the 5 to buy, I thought the Shuss wookie in front of the camper was the worst of the lot.  I was shocked to find it was the one sold out poster by the time I got to the tables.   Shows what I know....

It's also the stolen airplane factor.  Somehow, this story has "flown under the radar" with a lot of people.... (pun intended).

That is a Faile thing, see their Wrigley print.

    Well thought out poster.

You call it a turd.  I respect that.
I call it a poster with an airplane hijacking theme, from the same night that 2 military planes had to divert a lunatic in a stolen plane away from downtown Seattle while 45,000 PJ fans are in a baseball stadium.

Of course it was.  One helluva coincidence, which I thought made this print a little more interesting.

  • flying dogs with sunglasses is where I draw the line
I'm like an opening band for your mom.
  • It was one of two posters that I got at the 8-8 concert.  I loved it.  I've since acquired all five home show posters (including the Schuss AP that dropped the week before last), but the Faile and the Ames are my two faves.
  • I just don't think it's a very good poster.  I love the DB Cooper story.  It's fascinating.  But IMO, this print is nowhere near as good as their Chicago one from 2016.  It could be that they made up a ton of prints. And it could be that people just aren't into it.

The Ames was my favorite from the Home Shows.  Loved their idea of underwater baseball and a Poseidon/Randy Johnson love-child pitcher.  Waiting for that one to drop (didn't have time for the merch lines).  The Klausens from both Seattle and Boston are also pretty cool, but for me I think its more because I was at those shows, there was a theme, and I also have the Klausen from Chicago this is fairly similar.  I guess also I am a sucker for baseball-themed posters for shows performed in baseball stadiums.  The Faile is also cool and I dig the DB Cooper aspect of it, but I sorta hate their dog gimmick, just seems really random.

    Absolutely.

Plus, opinions were very much manipulated by availability.

First opinions of all the prints would have been genuine at the start, day before tents opened.

Shuss RV was the frontrunner for worst poster of the decade - but market manipulation fixed that.
