You showed up to pick up your tix at the box office, they checked your ID and based on your 10club number pulled the next 2 tickets off the corresponding stack. They switched to predetermined assigned seats in 2006 I think and the lottery for rows 1,2,9 & 10 was added in 2008 or 20100 -

Albany 03 must have been an anomaly for you (I was in row 2 that show, picked up my tickets in the afternoon), similar to what they mention happened at Jones Beach in 2000

Based on the blocks listed in the article, I should have been further back at one of those shows. Or there was only a small number of people jockeying to get there early and it didn't matter much.0
