this is a kick ass version 4/3/94. Isnt this the first time they played it live too?
great song. one of those that lets you know there's things out there gonna f with your head and make you do good or bad, and basically you're telling it to F off.....i love the 'jump off a clip dont need your help so back off'.
Someone (back in '03) offered an interesting interpretation that I have hung onto. They suggested that this song has to do with drug use or addiction. I'll explain.
i've never slept in satan's bed
although i must admit...still visits my place
Never been addicted to anything, but the thought occassionally comes up.
who made, who made up, made up the myth
that we were born to be covered in bliss?
Who decided that we should be able to be happy all the time?
never shook satan's hand, look see for yourself
you'd know it if i had, that shit don't come off
This line would have to do with physical indications (i.e. needle marks, wight loss)
Again, it's just a theory. The original poster layed it out much better.

"We paced ourselves and we didn't rush through it and we tried to be as creative as our collective minds would let us be over some course of time instead of just trying to rush through a record"
I always kinda thought that myself - i think there are alot of drug references in alot of the songs and we just dont pick up on it......I also thought maybe a couple of lines of this had to do with temptation of women - b/c you know it had to happen ALOT.
I think this song is about the temptation not to sleep on your partner. "Already in love" "Who made, who made up, made up the myth That we were born to be covered in bliss? Who set the standard, born to be rich? Such fine examples, skinny little bitch Model, role model, roll some models in blood Get some flesh to stick, so they look like us I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club I'd stop and talk, but I'm already in love."
i think like many of pj's songs it's open for intepretation.. but it sure has a personal side related to the band ,like most Vitalogy.
provably we the fans should get our own personal interpretations, wich is very easy about this song.. everyone has felt temptation for something..
"i shit and i stink! i'm real join the club!
model role model roll some models in blood!
uhh..
i shit and i stink.. uh .. never suck satan's cock..
model role model roll some models in blood!
dont know the lyrics to my ouw fuckin song!
already.. uhh.. already something..
already.. go on and solo already.."
hypocritical or not, how much difference does it make??/
Anyway, I think it has to do with being faithful to your partner, and dealing with temptations. As far as the guys living up to what they say, they say a LOT, and really set the bar way up, and just remember they are human....not the easiest life...
This is a kick ass song still. one of my faves....
Makes much more sense to live....in the present tense
I know I was born and I'll know that I'll die
The inbetween is mine, I am mine
I just feel like discussing this song....I think it is one of the best off of Vitalogy. Lyrically I am just re-discovering it. It absolutely blows me away and really gives you an insight (as do most of the songs from this record) about where Ed and the band were in the scheme of things...and how it all made them (or him) feel....
Here are a couple of my favorite lines from the song:
"uninvited, as you know, he don't wait
funny how he always seems to fit in
funny how i always want to give in
sundays, fridays, tuesdays, thursday, the same"
"i shit and i stink, i'm real, join the club"
"i'll rise and fall, let me take credit for both
jump off a cliff, don't need your help so back off"
"i'll wait for an angel, but i won't hold my breath
'magine they're busy, think i'm doing okay..."
Totally love this song. Helped me come up with my board name. It was this or special guest. lol I think I like mine better even though the two words aren't really together in the song.
The reason the main stream is thought of as a stream is because it's so shallow. -George Carlin-
musicians betray you, songs don't.
painters betray you, paintings don't.
lovers betray, love doesn't.....
And then the question is, what is most important, the music or the musician, the painter or the painting, the lover or love? I'd say the music, the painting, and the lover. I like this song, it's a nice rock song, nice to run to.
you can't have a painting without the painter...
you can't have music without the musician...
and you cannot make love without a lover...
guess that makes them all important eh
sometimes you're the boxer...sometimes you're the bag...
Couldn't the band just alter the words a little, you think? It's such a fun tune.
There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
You know it!!! One of my favorite lines from the song is in my sig....absolutely a brilliant song.
I think the Self Pollution Radio version is currently my favorite.
Yeah, I have that one in my iPod...that is a good one.

i agree about the temptation thing...
satan in this song can be the music industry ... like the whole album criticize
can be the music industry and maybe all things that its offers to them, groupies, money, drugs, personal life on news ...
and they just had to separate all that stuff from their carrer as musicians !
maybe nowadays it can be hypocritical ... not really !
perhaps just that role model, skinny little bitch thing .... since his story with beth and jill ... and we can't even say a lot about that ... because he's really reserved ... and he's right about that
it doesn't matter ... he's a musician his personal life its just his.
but he can't help the fact ... that his personal life influences his music
and we just have this ... his song

And I tried to follow that scenario.
But I had to stop before my head exploded.
Interesting. I always thought it was something to do with religion.
Then I thought it had something to do with Ticketmaster.
Guess I was wrong.
