wash my love wash my love wash my love WASH MY LOVE! WASH MY LOVE! i love it when he gets angry. i didnt like that song when i heard the intro since it didnt have much of a tune but i persevered and now i love it!
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

amazing in its simplicity........and absolutely, the anger in his voice - just quivers with emotion. i love, love, love that!!!
Whenever I listen to this song, I DO get nice, squiggly feelings about Ed and sex and... but really, it's about his giult over cheating on his woman, so ultimately it's a sad & angry little tune.

what's clean is pure, but hey, i'm white on the outside, though i stray
what she don't know today, might kill us both tomorrow, bring it back some way
bring it back, back, back... to the clean form, to the pure form
to me all of this means...even if you are never *caught*...you know you cheated and wronged your partner.........and how you wish you could bring it back to how it once was. to me - this song is very straightforward lyrically. could be just me though.

Oh, sure, don't get me wrong. ANYthing he touches is dead sexy. Hence, my name. My heart belongs to him...
well yes, but of course............however, even though this song is really sad/tragic.....the lyrics somehow STILL are so unbelievably sexxxy....and of course ed's growling of the words, such emotional intensity at the end......mmmmmmmm.......
oohh...
oh please, let it rain today
this city is so filthy, like my mind in ways
oh there was the time, like a clean, new taste
smiling eyes before me, inches from my face
I always listened to this song after I broke up with my gf. I just wanted to forget about her but I couldn't get her out of my head. I needed something to "wash my love" because i was black on the inside. Amazing song.

one of the saddest, heartfelt...yet sexiest of pj songs.......such a total favorite that gets me every time.

wash my love, yeah...
sin the sale, buying just a need
oh who planted all the devils seeds
and what's the truth, and the truth that lies at home
it's on the inside, and i can't get it off, yeah...
wash my love

i loooovvvvveeddd that they opened the last show of the north american tour at pnc arts center in 2003 with this tune - what an opener!!!
I have always thought of the "white" part as representing innocence. Thus "white on the outside" ...innocent in appearance, though I stray (cheat). Planting the devils seed=sex with someone other than the one you're with. I never thought this song had much mystery to it. Interesting to read some other perspectives.
This is exactly my take on the song. Infidelity in a relationship. The devil's seed could also be temptation, but the end result is the same.
You can't know what it's like, to bleed from here,
The blackened world goes white, it goes nowhere...

yes.....such an amazing tune. look at many of the songs on lost dogs, demonstrates all the more the brilliant quality of pearl jam's music, that these tracks were left off of earlier studio albums for various reasons.
Yes, like someone said earlier...it's simple and understated, even the vocals are somehow. That's what I like about it....and it has a gentle groove throughout the song, I think thats what makes it sexy.
SUCH an unbelievable song! Definitely one of my favs as well. It's sooooo pretty. Agreed, the imagery is awesome. LOVE these lyrics. LOVE all these marine like sounds. I don't know, just such a watery feel to it all. I love that. The entire feel of the song just washes over you, "clean and pure"....exactly! PJ is just SO brilliant like that. Also, I must agree...there IS indeed some sexiness going on here. This line alone is just

wash is definitely one of those songs that catches your attention the first time you hear it. a lot of people can relate to it and i think thats why it's so heart felt. and yes, very sexy.

Thats the only show I saw them play it live. It is a great opener. I always loved the song but seeing it live really brought it home.
