Man, you're asking the wrong person. If I could have it my way, I'd be living in a neighborhood with Napoleon Dynamite, assorted Wes Anderson characters, Christopher Lloyd, Edward Scissorhands, and we'd hang out at Pee Wee's Playhouse and not watch movies with him.

I understand this (too well).  Makes me wonder if we feel socially awkward or actually are that way?  Or are they ultimately the same thing, same end result?

Whether by baby steps or a huge leap, it takes courage to make the effort itself.  Be proud of yourself (and BE yourself) every time you try.

You know I was surprised to hear you say that, hedo. I don't perceive you to be that way at all. You're one of the voices of reason on here, and not at all awkward. You seem to get along really well with all types of people. You know yourself better than I do, of course, but that's just what I've observed.

I guess it occurs more when I feel the need to suppress parts of myself in certain situations.  If I'm not being me at the time, then who am I?  It feels insincere - awkward - on my part.  Probably why I'm not a big-group type of person!

It's eased over time as I've come to realize that as long as I'm not being an asshole, there's no reason to hold back.  Being true to myself is more important than trying to meet someone else's expectations (or what I perceive to be their expectations).

I love those guys together! Anytime I tried to watch one of their shows with someone else, they would always say how sorry they felt for Karl, that he was being ganged up on. It didn't bother me, because it never really seemed to bother Karl.
