A buddy was pouring some really good bourbon last night. I had pours of Eagle Rare 17, George T. Stagg (2015) and Weller CYPB. It was my first ER17 experience, and while it was really good, it was well behind the GTS. It lacked the flavor explosion that the GTS had, but that’s likely from the lower proof. Cool to try it though.
That's a good friend to have!

  • finally scored an ETL at my local shop for $55! Been hunting this bottle for years. Why is it so damn hard to find? Many people rank it last among BT mashbill #2 offerings, but I'm still very excited to finally try it. Have you guys had it?

128 & 134!?!  Whoooooooo!  That needs a drop of water.
  • So I have an open bottle of Old Tub that I will have from time to time.  It was something to try out.  I had it the day after drinking the Midwinters Dram and completely noticed a difference.

Nice score man.  I've never owned a bottle, but have had pours.  Hard to find because it is highly allocated and the bourbon hawks cash in on it.  Super solid and easy drinker at its proof.  Enjoy!

Tub is subpar compared to the Dram.  Literally night and day.

Old Tub is the only time I've been disappointed with a sub $25 bottle.  I thought it would "open up", but never did.

The only thing I've had that high proof is JD single barrel which was delicious.

What's up with those bottles?  Or is there something behind them? Such a confusing perspective lol

They are all hand blown with a pot still in the middle.

Tough day at work. Had to do a side by side wheated bourbon tasting.

I generally prefer the Weller profile way more than Larceny -- especially the 107. But how was the Golden Sheaf? I'm not familiar with that one.

Waiting for a good friend of mine to come back this summer (to Maine) on vacation. I'm placing a bottle of E.H Taylor and the old rip in front of him. He chooses which one we open and which one he takes home as a gift for the birth of his first child.

Anyone ever have Knob Creek 12 Year or Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel?  My shop had both today, but I'll probably only keep one and get the other to a buddy of mine.  I haven't tried either and wondering if one is considerably better than the other.

I have heard people not like the toasted barrel.  I can't remember if it was KC 12 or 15 that was more sought after.  I'm sure they are both fine though.

I was very impressed with the EC Toasted, but I also enjoy the KC 12-Year.  The Toasted is more difficult to come by (here).  The KC had what I would call the traditional Knob Creek “funk” (a good thing IMO) notes with loads of cherry.  The Toasted was reminiscent of slightly smoked s’mores. Everyone’s taste differs…. I would like to see them do a toasted barrel proof.  My $0.02.

They’re both very good but I like the EC more. With that being said, I’m not a huge fan of the KC funk in any of their products. I’m more of a Wild Turkey funk sort of guy!

Another thing I'll add to the thread is that I cracked open a Redbreast 12 over the weekend and it was delicious.  Very different flavor profile after being in the bourbon lane for so long, but it is a really good Irish whiskey.

Cheers brother!  Definitely with you on the Redbreast.  I'll be going back to that one real soon.
