  • when they played this at the show, the crowd went wild. it was a crazy kind of energy because they had been playing for so long, you just weren't sure when it was going to end. but once the song started, you didn't even care, it was all in the moment.

They played it in Chicago and I'm the first to post about it here? Freakin' unbelievable!

I feel we are in a special fraternity of sorts. PJFWSCOTIP. Pearl Jam Fans Who've Seen Crown Of Thorns In Person. Maybe we can have a secret handshake or something?

I'm hoping I get to hear it once during the European leg of the tour. I love this song and would probably be in tears if they did play it. The only thing I get emotional over is music

I was listening to MLB this morning and damn, this song always does it! :o

And seriously, hearing the Jeff interview and him talking about how emotional this song gets him and how it's been hard for him to play over the years?!! Awwww.:( But I love how he said that he felt that change in Chicago..and feels like maybe they can play it more now.:) Remember with smiles. :o

I'm SO beyond ready for this magical beauty on LEG 2 PJ.

  • I am listening to the MLB version right now and I have tears in my eyes. It is one of the most beautiful and gut wrenching songs I have ever heard. At the Vegas show (just the other day) I swear I could hear the intro to this music coming from somewhere (I think one of the guitar techs was playing it). I nearly exploded because I thought that the song was going to be played that night, but it wasn't. Hopefully someday I will have the pleasure of hearing Crown of Thorns live.

On the MSG DVD there is a part where Jeff and Stone are jamming in front of Matt and Jeff looks up at Stone and just smiles. *sigh* That part always gets me.

Hmm -- maybe I should honor the longivity of the thread and offer some insights to the lyrical interpetations.

Andy and Chloe. Glimmer Twins of the mystical kind.
Chloe just like me, only beautiful
A couple of years of difference

Chloe is a moniker of someone Andy never really met in person. He met her through me. She was 17 and he was 20. They were both Goats, both were short and packed a powerful punch. Both liked to climb the walls and kick the ceiling with their feet. Andy was the pretty one -- in a masculine way, and Chloe was the beautiful one in a feminine way.

Chloe danced the tables in the french quarter

That line was not about New Orleans or the Big Easy as some may have speculated. She was not a hooker or a prostitute. The line was about me dancing with her in spirit afterwards.

    But those lessons never learned

Those lessons never learned === was because she died when she was 17. I was her lover before she died. I was mourning her loss when I met Andy. Andy felt a deep, mystical, and spiritual bond with her == even through he never met her in person.

Time spent laying by her side
It was not her in person as much as it was her spirit coming through me. I felt her alive in my heart at all times --- even today.

The songs "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" are themselves sort of "twins" to one another.

He romantized meeting her in person ..... but that .... and other dreams I carried in my mind --- were never going to be possible. I had to bury apart of her in my mind == and Andy helped me do that.

And dreams like this must die
