Time for a new thread for this season!

So far tonight the Celtics winning streak has come to an end, OKC is killing Golden State and Lonzo Ball is set to play here in a bit.

    Anybody watching the GS/OKC game?

    I really, really LOVE watching Westbrook play.  He really is head and shoulders above everyone.

    I love Westbrook's aggression, drive to be the best and competitiveness, but I certainly don't think he's head and shoulders above some players. There's a number a players who I think are better than him, even last year. Certainly not saying he is not worthy of being considered in the top echelon of players, I just don't think he's top 5

    Hopefully he has been reasonable wise with his money, as he'll lose most of his Adidas money if he retires too, although they may offer a financial settlement to close out the contract.

    I'm a Bulls fan, and loved his early years and MVP year, but his body could just not hold up, after the first knee injury, to his style of play. And he's not been able to adjust his game and become a reliable playmaker and outside shooter

    Besides Lebron, Kawhi and Durant who else is above him?  Curry?  No.  Harden? No.

    What's up with the Westbrook love fest? Yeah he's an All Star player but he barely shoots 40%, pounds the ball way too much and plays awful defense. Yes I said awful defense, look at the advanced anylitical stats and see for yourself. Poor Paul George can't wait to get out because playing with him is a nightmare. His style is the #1 reason KD left. KD led the NBA in shots taken in the last 5 seconds of the shot clock during his last season in OKC. Reason simply being Westbrook dribbles the ball for 20 seconds and then dishes off when he finally can't get his shot. Speaking of selfish did you see him get all upset when he didn't get his precious triple double against the Warriors? Then he celebrates like they won the Finals or something? They are 8-11! I used to rip on Harden for similar reasons but he's improved his game and now leads a 60 win team with comparable talent to OKC. Westbrook is the most overrated player I've seen in my lifetime. He's a poor mans Allen Iverson. If he decides to grow up and start caring about winning and not triple doubles I'll be happy to eat my words but I don't see it happening. He's better than Curry? Curry completely dominated him during the 2016 WCF and wasn't even fully healthy while doing so. His ability to shoot from range has literally changed the entire way the game is being played. Let me know the next time Westbrook averages 30ppg on 50% shooting and leads his team to 67 plus wins and we can have a real debate. Collecting a bunch of meaningless counting stats in the NBA means nothing, especially for a PG. I would say he's a top 15 NBA player but Mark Cuban was dead right when he said he's not a superstar. If he's your best player you've got about a 45-50 win team that will NEVER play in June.

    I wouldn't get too carried away after 20 games. Paul George led that team to within a game of the NBA Finals a few years back. Speaking of the Pacers how about Victor Oladipo? He's playing like an All Star, averaging 23ppg on 47% shooting. Geeze doesn't look at all like the bum who played for OKC last season... wonder why?     Speaking of Westbrook I can come up with 11 players better than him, with a few getting close...


    1. LeBron – Still best player in the league
    2. KD – Unstoppable offensive player, underrated defensive player, 2nd in the NBA in Blocks
    3. Kawhi – Health becoming an issue but when healthy is best 2 way player in the NBA
    4. Curry – Complete game changer on offense with ability to space the floor. Underrated finisher and playmaker.
    5. Harden – Unstoppable one on one player, still needs to show up in May/June though.
    6. Antetokounmpo – Frightening talent averaging 30ppg on 55% shooting. Plus 11rpg and almost 2 blocks.
    7. Anthony Davis – Putting up insane numbers, has never even played with an above average Point Guard.
    8. Karl-Anthony Towns – Closest skill set I’ve ever seen to Tim Duncan. Will lead MIN to 50 wins and because of him they can spook GS, HOU and SA come playoff time.
    9. Kyrie Irving – The most unstoppable one on one guard in the league. Shoots a better % than Westbrook and makes his teammates better. Likely leading BOS to a 60 win season without Hayward and a bunch of 25 and under players is a heck of an accomplishment.
    10. John Wall – Better playmaker than Westbrook and an All League defensive player. Makes teammates better, just look at Beal who’s a 24ppg scorer and the development of Otto Porter.
    11. Paul George – Won’t get to see it this season because of Westbrook but he’s one of the best 2 way players in the league. Can defend at an elite level and score 25 if needed.
    12. Westbrook – Freakish athletic talent, puts up monster numbers but on a usage rate above 40%. Doesn’t make teammates better, turns the ball over at a comical rat, especially in crunch time. Has athletic ability to be an All League defender but doesn't put in the work, goes for too many steals and gets lost on screens consistently.

    Two players who I'll likely have above Westbrook in a season or two...

    Ben Simmons - Already dominating and playing smart winning basketball despite an awful jumper.

    Embid - Most fluid true big mane I've seen in a LONG time, reminds me of Olajuwon. If he stays healthy you are looking at a top 5 NBA player.

        Currently based on this season -
        Curry absolutely YES and same with Harden (I can't stand his style of play, but he's good). Greek Freak and also Irving for this season and A. Davis has to be in the discussion also.

        Wall can be in front of him also, but he is still to inconsistent to be a fulltime top 10 player

        I have Westbrook in the top 10, just, but as Lastexit78 has said, he is not a good shooter and dominates the ball far too much. His rebounding stats are massively inflated as he takes teammate rebounds and also leaves his defensive assignment to get boards.

          My reasons for Harden not above him is for the meltdown he had in the playoffs last year.  A superstar doesn't NOT show up like that.  Petty, I know because he balled amazing last year and has elevated his game.

          My reason for not being above Curry was all around play but after reading the statistics I am wrong about that.  I go by what I see and not so much the analytics but they are pretty bad and I didn't realize the Steals per game were so low.  Watching him play you'd think he had more SPG...  

          Above with Antetokounpo at #6?  He drives baseline with no outside shot, so I don't get that.  If he does develop an outside shot then he will be SCARY.

          I like everything else but Wall, Towns and Westbrook.  I love watching Wall play but there is something missing.  I'm not sure if he could be put on a team with another superstar?  He might end up playing like Westbrook.

          Also where is Chris Paul on your lists?  Dude is STILL an elite baller and defender.

          Chris Paul was a top player 10 player last season but the fit in Houston might not be a good one. Maybe when he's fully healthy he'll start looking great again. I agree about Harden's playoff meltdowns. He played awful last season and the prior two seasons vs the Warriors. We will know if the Greek Freak is a legit top 10 player by seasons end. Right now his lack of jump shot doesn't seem to matter. But I could see him having big problems come May/June when you play the same team over and over. As for Westbrook he's just a tweak from being a superstar but he's got to change his game. Right now I can't think of another star who would thrive playing along side of him and that's a big problem. His game while entertaining doesn't mesh well with other scorers. I could see him maybe being effective playing with a big like Anthony Davis, running pick and rolls and throwing him lobs. A healthy Blake Griffin would probably work as well.

          You're spot on with Westbrook, his game doesn't mesh well with other star players. He has extreme talent, but needs to adjust his game more to incorporate a fellow star and to allow them to do their thing also.

          If OKC keep losing games they should be winning (Today v Magic), Donovan will be lucky to se out the All Star break as their Head coach. He does need some time to get all on the same page, but they are playing far too much ISO. They do lack genuine shooters and Robertson is a liability on offense for them. They need a SG that will consistently knock down open jumpers and whilst he is out there, teams can drop off him and help out elsewhere.

          Think Clippers may pull the trigger on Jordan trade now if Blake is out for 2 months reported. Be very interesting to see what they can get for him

          8. Karl-Anthony Towns – Closest skill set I’ve ever seen to Tim Duncan. Will lead MIN to 50 wins and because of him they can spook GS, HOU and SA come playoff time.
          9. Kyrie Irving – The most unstoppable one on one guard in the league. Shoots a better % than Westbrook and makes his teammates better. Likely leading BOS to a 60 win season without Hayward and a bunch of 25 and under players is a heck of an accomplishment.
          10. John Wall – Better playmaker than Westbrook and an All League defensive player. Makes teammates better, just look at Beal who’s a 24ppg scorer and the development of Otto Porter.
          11. Paul George – Won’t get to see it this season because of Westbrook but he’s one of the best 2 way players in the league. Can defend at an elite level and score 25 if needed.
          12. Westbrook – Freakish athletic talent, puts up monster numbers but on a usage rate above 40%. Doesn’t make teammates better, turns the ball over at a comical rat, especially in crunch time. Has athletic ability to be an All League defender but doesn't put in the work, goes for too many steals and gets lost on screens consistently.

          Two players who I'll likely have above Westbrook in a season or two...

          Ben Simmons - Already dominating and playing smart winning basketball despite an awful jumper.

          Embid - Most fluid true big mane I've seen in a LONG time, reminds me of Olajuwon. If he stays healthy you are looking at a top 5 NBA player.

            I wouldn't get too carried away after 20 games. Paul George led that team to within a game of the NBA Finals a few years back. Speaking of the Pacers how about Victor Oladipo? He's playing like an All Star, averaging 23ppg on 47% shooting. Geeze doesn't look at all like the bum who played for OKC last season... wonder why? Oh yeah he actually gets to take shots and doesn't have a PG who dribbles out the shot clock every possession.

            Speaking of Westbrook I can come up with 11 players better than him, with a few getting close...


            1. LeBron – Still best player in the league
            2. KD – Unstoppable offensive player, underrated defensive player, 2nd in the NBA in Blocks
            3. Kawhi – Health becoming an issue but when healthy is best 2 way player in the NBA
            4. Curry – Complete game changer on offense with ability to space the floor. Underrated finisher and playmaker.
            5. Harden – Unstoppable one on one player, still needs to show up in May/June though.
            6. Antetokounmpo – Frightening talent averaging 30ppg on 55% shooting. Plus 11rpg and almost 2 blocks.
            7. Anthony Davis – Putting up insane numbers, has never even played with an above average Point Guard.
