    And technically, there were some compromises. The Missouri Compromise comes to mind. Let one of our northern states into the union, and we'll let one of your slave holding states in to maintain balance of power. Draw a line and north of the line (Missouri excluded) was forbidden to have slaves. South of the line could continue to be racist fucks. Not a great compromise, but it was an attempt. It ultimately didn't solve anything. But Kelly is dead fucking wrong about the cause of the civil war, and his stated cause wasn't even accurate. I guess that means he's double dead fucking wrong.

    this is part of the republican effort to whitewash the causes of the civil war. to try to humanize traitors. to try to blame lincoln, which is ironic because lincoln was a republican and that fact is one of the things republicans cling to.
