I love this song, thanks for posting the lyrics. It sounded great on the benaroya cd.

    *tears up*

This song is so beautiful it hurts.

And Stonefloyd, in response to your post, yeah I have seen Big Fish and yeah, you are totally right...this song means that much more after seeing it. It also makes me even more blown away by Ed. What a PERFECT match! Wow! :o

I LOOOVE the progression of this song, it starts out really quiet, then the middle gently picks up, then towards the end it gets really quiet again, but gently picks up before it's over. Really makes you feel like it's taking you on a journey. This is definitely a song that takes you places...beautiful, peaceful, hopeful places. :) These hidden hope songs really get to me. They are the kinda songs that heal in amazing ways. I love it. :)

    THANK YOU PEARL JAM!

This song is more than PROOF that you "still got it, still got it" ;):D

  • An absolutely amazing song written for a great movie. I was wondering, this song is about a man finding himself in various ways...right?

this song is both hard to listen to and strangely comforting at the same time. this song IS my dad...so much about it is my dad and while he isn't gone yet, he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and we aren't sure how long we'll have him around for.

if i knew my mother wouldn't have a coronary, and if my brother weren't so shy, i would ask that my brother play this song at my father's funeral as a tribute to him, his strength, his life, and as a symbol of our love for him.

    okay, sorry for the downer.

i thought this thread needed a bump too!! ;)

lanners....you have me crying over here!!!

    *HUGE HUGS*

THIS SONG IS MY DAD TOO!!! I lost him :( but his love forever lives on. He gave sooooo SO much of it. When I first heard this one it floored me how dead on it summed him up too. I agree with you, it is hard to listen to but also incredibly comforting. I'm glad I CAN listen to this one. I cannot even go anywhere near RELEASE and sadly it's one of my absolute favs. :( But yeah......

I feel you big time on this. You & your Dad will be in my thoughts. Please hang in there.

What a blessing this band is. Songs like these that these that offer therapy beyond belief and just blanket our broken little souls. Again, there is SO much hope in this song and it really touches my heart. :) I can't even express how grateful I am.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, but isn't it great that MOTH seems to lessen the hurt a bit? I don't live in the same area as my Dad and only get to see him every couple of months but listening to this song makes me feel closer to him.

it's kind of like this green striped sweater i have...it's like a warm hug.

PJ have carried me through some of the roughest, craziest times of my life and i'm sad to say that i sort of, well, drifted from them for a while. So, right around the time my brother got me a ticket to the halifax show (which was my first) i started rekindling my love for them, and then kicking myself in the ass for letting so much time pass.

At this same time my father was in the hospital and very very ill...in fact they didn't know if he would ever leave (but he did!!!). My family was too upset (and tight-lipped) to really talk about what was going on, so who carried me through the shit again? Pearl Jam.

I know they say that the only certainties in life are birth, death and taxes, but i would like to add PJ to that list. Since I first heard them back in 91/92 they have been there whenever i've needed them. There seems to be a song to help me get through every BS moment of my life, and a song for each victory.

(sorry...i've got Given to Fly playing...it gets me all pumped up!!!)

That is just a beeeeeauitful post lanners! And thanks btw :).... sorry to hear about yours as well but also so glad that we can both find such relief in this stunning song.

Really...I agree with everything you said there...this one defintiely makes me feel closer to him as well. The song is a HUGE comfort. Like the green striped sweater...a warm hug. Awww. Exactly.

I hear/feel you completely. I too found this band back in the early days, 91/92, and since then they have become such a huge part of my life. YES, they are always there to help you through it!! SOO true. THE GREATEST DRUG ON THE PLANET!! And it's absolutely pure/honest. I love that. There really is a song for every mood, for every feeling, for every situation. You don't feel as lost, as alone. The music is there to comfort, heal, SAVE! Nothing has related to me so much and seriously nothing helped me through the darkest, hardest times like this band did. This is just therapy that can't be matched. As I always say, this is THE longest, most benefical relationship of my life....and going strong! :D

So glad you and PJ are back together! :) Halifax?! Wow! What an amazing set that was. Who could possibly deny being head over heels in love (again) after all that?! :p;)

Take care my PJ friend...& MUCH PJ love to ya! :)

I love the song. I think its even more touching once you've seen Big Fish. I balled when I heard it for the first time. I can't imagine hearing it live. Its such a beautiful song that doesn't get a lot of recognition.

I don't think I can explain what the lyrics of this song do to me. The first time I heard it I cried too......

I spent many a night listening to "Release" & wondering if Eddie could read my mind....HA!

Anyway, I'm glad so many people get to feel so much listening to it....

P.S. My Dad was nothing like the guy in "Big Fish".
