Alright, I thought it was time that this beautiful masterpiece get its own well deserved thread.

This song is simply gorgeous! I was lucky enough to witness its premire at Beneroya and I was just in total awe. It brought tears to my eyes. I haven't had a Pearl Jam song touch me this close and this personal in a long time. It was already up there with favs like Off He Goes. Talk about power. If this song isn't proof and then some that these boys SO still have it then I don't know what is. This song truely is a gift from above and I thank the PJ gods for delivering it to everyone. Now we can all experience the magic for ourselves.

These words are so deep, so poetic. The imagery here is just breath-taking. And I love how as sad as it seems, the main message, "goodbye for now". The hope behind this song is truely touching.

So many lines really get me but I especially love this one....

"he was guiding me, love, his own way"

So beautiful!!!

Everything about it is just that! These words, Ed's voice, the emotion, the passion, and the crystal clear sleightly haunting yet upbeat music and how it totally echos all of the feeling behind Ed's voice.

What a song! Give it up for this new PJ song... already one of the best ever if ya ask me.

* Man Of The Hour *

tidal waves don't beg forgiveness
crash, then on their way
father, he enjoyed collisions
others walked away
the snowflake falls in may
and the doors are open now
as the bells are ringing out
cuz the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
goodbye for now
nature has its own religion
gospel from the land
father ruled by long division
young men, they pretend
old men comprehend
and the sky breaks at dawn
shedding light upon this town
we all come 'round
cuz the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
goodbye for now
and the road, the old men paved
the broken seams along the way
the rusted signs, they're just for me
he was guiding me, love, his own way
now the man of the hour
has taken his final bow
as the curtain comes down
i feel that this is just
goodbye for now

Eddie siginig it on BSB vcd is AMAZING...
So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone. And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow. But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself. It is best to compose a poem, an honest longing or simple song of hope.

2 Man Of The Hour threads on the first page in celebration of...

    * How incredible this song is

    and

    * How kick ass it is that it's up for a Golden Globe and Critics Choice award. :D

Again I love the hope in this song.

"now the man of the hour
    has taken his final bow
    as the curtain comes down
i feel that this is just
    goodbye for now "

I love how Ed says "final" bow like it's seen to many as a definite "he's gone and never coming back" kinda deal, but then Ed says that he feels that it is just goodbye for now...therefore he can experience this goodbye in a different way, and kinda be peaceful and at ease with it all. He is hopeful and faithfull. :)

Just beautiful! The beauty and hope here are truely touching and inspiring.

    Thanks again PJ! :)

Thank you Eddie! You really created something extra extraordinary here.

  • I heard the studio version for the first time today and i was completely blown away!!!! The simple guitar intro just hooked me in instantly....and Ed's voice is simply magical!!! I don't think i've ever instantly liked a song as much as i like Man of the Hour.

A truly magnificent song, thanks for making a thread for this song Lydia!

Agree, Agree it pulled at my attention to listen closer, to feel it more. I love the song, it is beautiful.
Inspired me to write a word to my son, Eddie's voiced moved me into my own situation with raising my son alone and wondering if we should seek out his father, read this let me know whata think...all thanks to PJ............
Separate but one you are my son

Your soul was born onto me so I could learn not necessarily teach
Dreams of regret worn slowly away, it’s only in your struggles I wished he stayed –

Balance act in my hands; love you enough and not keep so you knew how to land – to let a child stand is a bittersweet demand, hard as a woman to raise a little man.

My guilty head try’s to hide - better to let it go my heart tells me inside.
His father gone I don’t know what to do, I can never fulfill the role of two?

The question lingers and what should I do, this is his journey I serve not rescue.
This door I must open but only he can go through, to know the man he never knew.

In his own time and because his own mind, my son must decide the next steps to climb, this man to know or let him go. Whatever the way I remain to help him know, that he is the most precious man bestowed.

If I help him and point to the clues I fear for his heart and the pain to ensue, Love and I will see him through to bandage the image of the father he outgrew.

Free to be Alex and the man he becomes never to own only a fatherless son.

Separate but one he is my son, I wish him to be freed from the mysterious one, through his own decision for his own reason.

This song is totally amazing! Thanks for the thread, and I hope more people show appreciation for this song. "Snowflake falls in May", and all the other visualizations, make this so great.
It's a very inspirational song. Thank you to Pearl Jam.
  • Hey VEDHEAD27,
I want to know if you have seen Big Fish and your opinion of the movie. Because after you seen the movie the song's meaning grows at least 50 time better.

Think of all the people out there trying to preach faith and spirituality, Pearl Jam(Ed) delivers this to me time and time again with their words and music. Such simple words give me comfort beyond anything I have ever read or listened to, thankyou Pearl Jam, for this.
