Pretty Awesome Memorabilia Find

MG182478MG182478 Cleveland, Ohio Posts: 28
I first heard “It’s OK” on the Touring Band DVD back in 2000.

I had an instant connection with it, and 17 years later it hasn’t changed. So many amazing versions of it now. :)

To see it live in Cleveland 2006 was amazing. After 30 some shows, it’s still probably one of the highlights for me.

You can imagine my excitement when I came across the below.

I don’t have proof that it’s real, but it would be hard to argue that it’s not.

I took a picture of the back, too.

The other photos are all items that were found together in a folder with the lyrics.

The setlist is a photo copy, but “Inside Job” and the crossing out of songs are with a sharpie over the photo copy.

It’s all really cool, and I wanted to share.

Enjoy.

it was found by somebody who works at the Q (Quicken Loans Arena) back in 2006, but it was given to a friend of mine and he's had it for the last 11 years. It's been in a filing cabinet all this time. (GASP!)

I've asked a few times over the years If I could have them, buy them, barter for them etc.

I ran into him last week and it was the right combination of timing, alcohol, and I just made him an offer I knew he wouldn't refuse.

They'll get a ton more attention and love in my possession than his, anyway. :)

And I also approve the Cleveland concert message. We're overdue!

I received a message from David who added some amazing back story to the lyrics.. With pictures. Check it out below

    • Luke Jackson, my best friend since first grade was playing for the Cavilers back in 2006. He knew Pearl Jam had always been my favorite band, so he flew me out to Cleveland for the 5/20/06 show. Knowing Pearl Jam were huge basketball fans, we thought we would bring them an autographed basketball by the Cavilers (including LeBron James). So we headed over to the Quicken Loans arena that afternoon. Luke was able to get us into the arena through the Cavs locker room. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Pearl Jam was sound checking "I am Mine" as we walked down the corridor back stage. Then the next thing we know there was Eddie walking towards us, by himself, with this notepad and a cup of tea. He walked right up to us and introduced himself and we gifted him with the autographed basketball.  He was really excited with the gift and said that he would play a round of poker with the bandmates to see who would get to keep the ball. Then Jeff walked up and started talking with Luke.  Luke took Jeff on a tour of the Cavs locker room, while Eddie and I sat down and just talked. It was truly amazing! Eddie was genuine and nice. He gave me his full attention. He went on and asked me if there were any songs I wanted to hear tonight because he was working on the setlist. I could barely contain my excitement, here was my favorite musician asking what I wanted to hear!!  Without hesitation I told Eddie I would love to hear "It's OK" Dead Moon tag with Daughter. He loved the request and mentioned they had covered that song in Spanish when they toured Mexico the previous year. I had gone through some stuff in my life and (similar to your story) ever since hearing/watching Pearl Jam cover the It's OK at Jones Beach on the Touring Band VHS the song meant so much me.  I also requested Immortality and Yellow Ledbetter. I got to watch Eddie write down, erase, and move songs around on the setlist in his notepad to accommodate my requests. It was surreal.  We talked for a little while longer.  Eddie offered to pose for some photos (one of the photos he wanted to stand on his briefcase so he could be taller than my friend Luke...good sense of humor), signed autographs, gave us guitar picks, and backstage passes to the show. Since they rarely played It's OK, Eddie took the time to hand write the lyrics to my request (hence the paper you got from your buddy).  If you listen close the lyrics that night they are a little different from the Jones Beach version. He had this paper in front of him laying on the stage. If you watch the  old video I will send you through WeTransfer (its too large to email) from the It's OK performance you can see he looking down reading these lyrics during the song.  I hadn't seen the written lyrics again and didn't even know they still existed, until I read your "Pretty Awesome Memorabilia" post on the forum.

Still being a huge Pearl Jam fan, that experience was one of the coolest days of my life. Even though it was 11 years ago, it still crosses my mind almost daily.

Below are some photos from the day. You will notice from my picture of the backstage flyers that you have the flyer on the lower right corner... the one that listed the timeline/stage times for the evening! Awesome!!!

Well hope you enjoyed my story!

      David
