You know if any other group of Canadians lost $300M from a bank or other finance company, the govt would be freaking, responding and bailing them out but they just don't care when crypto people lose vast sums of money," tweeted Canadian lawyer Christine Duhaime. "It's not right."
Why should they be bailed out? We don't bail people out who gamble in the stock market or at the casino...tough.

They should not be bailed out because they specifically chose this type of investment to avoid government "interference"/intervention, knowing the risks. It's the money laundering capital of the world. Not just the casinos. SO much money is laundered through real estate and business too. It went COMPLETELY unchecked for the entire 16 years that the BC Liberals were in office. It's insane. What's even more insane is that about half the province still fucking seems to support that crooked, useless, corrupt, compromised party. It makes me SO ANGRY.Meltdown99 said:
That is a good point. I also have been trying to follow the money laundering going on at BC casinos. They need to get that stopped. I read they estimate a billion has been laundered at BC casinos if I remember correctly.PJ_Soul said:
Not funny to me - I'm sure this quite negatively impacts the local BC economy, not to mention the 115,000 customers who are screwed. The stupidity behind this is STUNNING though.rgambs said:https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/02/digital-exchange-loses-137-million-as-founder-takes-passwords-to-the-grave/
I'm fighting to stifle my desire to find this hilarious.

Yup. And it was only supposed to be temporary until he moved. Sometimes the banks are a better option.josevolution said:Tall building..Give Peas A Chance…0 -
Sounds like really unfortunate timing for this guy. Also sounds like he did it to save what he saw as unnecessary bank fees, without fully understanding what he was doing and what risks he took.josevolution said:

Wow. This story went from dumb to really interesting, lol. I don't know if he's actually dead - I know people have been wondering that from the beginning, and now it almost seems like they might have a good reason to ask.Meltdown99 said:Quadriga mystery 'cold wallets' were emptied months before Gerald Cotten's death

Well, he would not be the 1st to fake his own death.

He could also have been blackmailed or "robbed" and murdered or something really crazy like that. Perhaps someone out there is a very very rich scammer/murderer right now.Meltdown99 said:

I did a little google search, he died in India from complications od Chron's disease. The hospital produced a death certificate, I'm sure death certificates can be faked, and I'm not so sure I can totally trust this hospital.PJ_Soul said:

He could have been poisoned or something, and the death certificate could be real. If he suffered from Crohn's, then someone could have conceivably figured out how to make his death look related to the disease, assuming the Indian docs didn't go above and beyond in an autopsy (if then). Who knows??? It's for sure really shady looking all around. It seemed weird from the very beginning - it was too shocking to think that someone in his position would be stupid enough to allow all that money to get trapped just because of an encrypted laptop.Meltdown99 said:

At this point, anything is possible. You would think his top executives at the company would have access, that's why I'm suspicious.PJ_Soul said:

Strange case. The RCMP have their work cut out for them...For sure. At first, I said something like, "I can't fucking believe how STUPID this guy must have been, somehow, despite the fact that he is a 30 year old controlling a company...."
It just seemed really "off"... but at least conceivable I guess. But now with this new info, no, there has to be more to it.... Or maybe his girlfriend is super involved in all this.
