I agree with you on the ticket prices being to steep. But this is a trend that has been gradually going on for years now. And indeed has to do with promoters wanting to feed heavily off popular musicians. I can only speak for the Netherlands, but if you want to pay little for a concert, you have to go see small bands in small venues. All "big" bands and artists go for crazy money these days.

For me, Ed solo, is one of my white whale concerts. I missed out on Ed in Carre Amsterdam 2012, so I'm going for both Amsterdam concerts this time. Yes it will cost me a shit load of money, but for me it will be worth it. You only live once. Yes that's a cliche, but true nonetheless
No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead...

Finally I decided to enter for Berlin. I would love to see EV in Taormina but there are no direct flights from Vienna, 1 or 2 stops and the shortest transfer from Vienna, over Munich to Catania is approx. 6 hours! But in the end i'm going to see EV in Europe again!!!
up here in my tree in Vienna

Okay, I'm so thrilled Ed's finally at long last bringing his solo show to Dublin. But...

(I'm not going to get into the ticket price issue, other than to say it is expensive, but when you have lost most of the income you used to make from record sales to streaming & free downloads & have to make it back from touring but can only do a short tour, then high ticket prices are unfortunately inevitable.)

    But...

    My real disappointment is this:

    Dublin has this... http://www.thespencerhotel.com/upload/slide_images/olympia-1.jpg

    and this...
    https://goo.gl/images/bKwO2U

    and this...
    http://www.vicarstreet.com/images/slides/Vicar-St-empty-seated-candles.jpg

    and this...
    http://www.eventrocks.com/assets/iveagh_gardens_dublin_stage_52692.jpg

... all infinitely more suited to the lovely intimacy of Ed's solo show than this...

It makes no sense. Such a ridiculously oversized, impersonal, totally inappropriate choice of venue, that's going to be virtually impossible to fill - while there are so many far more suitable & lovely theatres I was hoping he might have played in.

Ah well. It's all about ťhe music so it's a minor gripe. But such a wasted opportunity...

yep was thinking exact same as soon as I saw venue... Iveagh Gardens is definitely a missed opportunity, perfect for Ed & Glen. Would have loved Olympia or even BGT too (CSN were amazing there)... Ah well :|

I would imagine security is being beefed up following the Paris/Eagles of Death Metal attack.

I go to a lot of football (soccer) matches and concerts in London and i've noticed zero difference in security at either since Paris.
I can't imagine thats the reason the ticket price has gone up.
Just cause you didn't notice it doesn't mean it wasn't there... and do they have soccer matches in small theaters? I'm not siding with the price increase necessarily but the PJ camp have been HARD FUCKING CORE about the safety since Roskilde (not to say they weren't before) and it would surprise me if Paris wasn't at least in the back of their minds. If you'd rather just be pissed off about it then go right ahead I really don't care. We'll probably never really know why.

Oh and yes. The climate has changed.

You obviously don't remember the bomb outside the football stadium in France the same night as the bataclan attacks. Thats why I bought it up. It was a target.

You are right we won't ever know, but I know what i see with my own eyes regarding security at gigs in London and football matches and there is no discernible difference post Paris.

For your average run of the mill gigs I've not seen any increase in security and it is as lax as it has always been.

Stadium shows I've seen an increase in police presence at some shows but still fairly low key. No searches at gates etc. Anyone wired up could gain access to a gig no problem.

Lets be honest it would be easy to commit an act like the Bataclan any night of the week in almost any town across the Uk and probably most of europe.

from this disclaimer I understand that you can:
    - For shows with two different ticket price levels offered (Sicily and Antwerp). You may enter for both price levels, but can only be selected for one pair of tickets for the show. You cannot be selected for both pairs to a given show.

I saw a police presence rise at Tottenham home games for about a month after the Paris attacks and then back to normal.
It would be very easy to do a similar attack anywhere again, I agree.

The idea that increased security is the reason EV or his promoter has got greedy is pretty laughable.

Can I ask for some advice ( not booked as a TenClub member before). Want to go to Dublin and Cork. Cork has a presale period opening Thursday morning. Is there any advantage to waiting for this presale or should I just put Dublin and Cork down now for the draw? Thanks!

Marquee not included in draw, just Dublin.... I've entered draw for Dub & then will use ticketmaster pre-sale on thurs for Cork
    Thanks foursymbols!

massive dilemma of which tickets to go for in the drawing.

currently in for the london shows but seriously tempted to go for level 2 at taormina. With a 99% chance on those that makes it really attractive and then take my chance with usual routes for london.

The restriction of one pair of tickets is fair I suppose but I wish we could have more, even at those prices :)

  • I was surprised at the choice of venue in Dublin too as you say much nicer and more suitable venues available

First time trying for 10c tickets, Dublin show. If tickets are sold as a pair would they be together or in separate areas of the venue? Bit confused on this from looking at previous posts. Don't want to be on my own at a gig...

My experience where we were separated in Verona was a one off, every other seated gig with tickets via tenclub I have been to the pair of tickets have been together (that's 5 out 6 times they've been together) - I was just stating that it's not 100% guarantee in my experience

Is the tour closed or can we expect more european dates?

Only the possibility of second shows added to those that have single nights so far from what I have read.

for a major act unfortunately these are not expensive prices. many shows in toronto are now minimum 150.00 each or more for acts of any magnitude. sign of the times. glad i went to a gazillion shows years ago when they were 14.50 to 25.00 .(bruce springsteen 1984 15.00 in buffalo etc.)

Id be willing to bet the increase price is partially due to beefed up security

Why would the security be beefed up?
We are in exactly the same climate as we were 5 years ago.

I saw a police presence rise at Tottenham home games for about a month after the Paris attacks and then back to normal.
It would be very easy to do a similar attack anywhere again, I agree.

The idea that increased security is the reason EV or his promoter has got greedy is pretty laughable.
There will certainly be an increased police presence at the Lane this Sunday lol. COYS
