Apparently, the NYT were publishing the emails at any moment, so he scrambled to release it on his own for "full transparency" as he says

Who said he was scrambling?  If anything he was putting it out as fast as the NYT scrambled to put it out.
He called the Times right as they were about to release them to ask for more time so he could comment on it...then he just preemptively released them himself to claim "transparency."
It was a pre-emptive sentencing strike. It might get him a reduced sentence. Anyone hear from Jared, dear boy?

Watching the evolution of this unfold is interesting, so much more exciting and interesting over taking millions of dollars in donations and speaking fees in exchange for uranium.

I don't think impeachment's going to happen, but let's suppose he does get impeached.  The 60 million people who voted for Trump are going to be angrier than they were when we had a black president.  They'll double down.  2020 Preferential Election Winner:  Richard Spencer.

apparently not according to the journalist breaking the story.

How close were you to publishing before Trump Jr. tweeted the emails?

I was a ways off. This was a thing that felt like it was going to go on for the rest of the time Donald Trump was in office.

I would think if they went down that road, there would be pretty sufficient evidence presented by the Mueller investigation.  Many of those 60 Million wouldnt be able to deny and yell 'fake news' at that point... if a Republican Congress is compelled to go through with the impeachment process.

Actually, that would be very interesting.  I honestly don't believe he's lost any support.* It would be interesting to see whether a critical mass of Trump supporters become former Trump supporters.  It really seems like whatever happens will be blamed on "fake news" by them.  I think we've underestimated just how crazy and embedded into our society this really is.  And how angry so many people were that we had a black president.  If the do get to the point when the evidence is in our faces, the reasonable ones will accept it.  But out of 60 million?  I'd say we're talking thousands, not millions.

*Not literally "no supporters" but well over 90% of them seem to dig their heels in harder and harder every time something unprofessional, sinister, potentially treasonous, or incompetent comes out.

How could it be blamed on "fake news" if, under this scenario, the special counsel provides clear evidence that would cause congress to start impeachment proceedings or ask him to resign?

If there's a mountain of evidence uncovered and these Trump supporters cannot handle it, then fuck them. They're not real Americans if they would still support Trump at that point.

I admire your ability to avoid internet places frequented by comments from these people. I need to be better at that.

EVERYTHING that says anything bad about Trump is immediately dismissed as "fake news."  We're near the point at which a third of this country won't believe anything that does not come from Breitbart, Fox News, and Trump's Twitter account.

If Trump ends up getting removed...you'll have no trouble finding comments that say "the President was literally impeached because of fake news."  It would be hilarious.  Most of them will never drop their support for Trump.  Never.  No matter what he does or how much worse he makes their lives.

I encounter people like that all the time. Right now his approval is at 40%, only Ford was lower at this point in his term.

Once the investigation is over and hard evidence is presented, of course there will still be lemmings who claim it's all fake.....but I guarantee that approval will plummet even further into somewhere in the 20's at that point. Those 40% are not all irrational idiots. A lot of them just don't want to believe what is being reported until the investigation has been completed. And if/when you have republican leadership telling the president to resign or risk impeachment....there's not much more a rational human being can say at that point. Gonna take a long time to get there, most likely. But it's coming.

Oh there is, I am just pointing out that both sides do it.  Just like there is truth to HRC being corrupt and Obama not knowing a Constitution if it hit him in the face.

Watching the evolution of this unfold is interesting, so much more exciting and interesting over taking millions of dollars in donations and speaking fees in exchange for uranium.
Too bad a host of federal agencies had to approve that deal and Hillary didn't have sole decision making authority over approval but hey, Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, Obama, obama, obama!!!!!
Don't  forget Emails Emails  Emails and that oldie but a goodie...Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi

really. and there was no truth to that, was there? illegal wars and occupations and civilian murdering was just a witch hunt, was it?
Oh there is, I am just pointing out that both sides do it.  Just like there is truth to HRC being corrupt and Obama not knowing a Constitution if it hit him in the face.

    They are all useless.
I agree about HRC. But your comment about Obama? can you expand on that?

I don't think impeachment's going to happen, but let's suppose he does get impeached.  The 60 million people who voted for Trump are going to be angrier than they were when we had a black president.  They'll double down.  2020 Preferential Election Winner:  Richard Spencer.

But it's coming.

    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/meet-trump-regretters-wish-change-vote-145438043.html

It looks like we are already at about 10% of his voters are turned off.  Still amazing that he has >80% support in his base... but 10% is a death knell if that holds.  Especially considering you can expect considerable motivation for 'everybody else' to show up at the voting booth to end this circus....

And yeah, if Republican Congress did act, pass through the House, and 2/3 of congress, I would bet we would have been presented some pretty airtight and compelling evidence.

I would agree with this......I've a close friend who met and ate with Trump at Mar a Lago several times before he was President.  From those interactions feels Trump is the best thing that has happened to America to this date. No matter what has happened or is going come down the line I don't see her and her friends changing any thought process as to what he is doing to this country or will do in the future. They will stay devoted to him and blame it like he will on others.....FAKE NEWS!

DOn't underestimate that willingness to call real news fake news. I saw some people online this morning saying that the Russian lawyer/Trump Jr. emails are fake news, and the fact that Trump Jr. himself posted the emails made absolutely no difference to those people, lol. They are not anywhere near the realm of rationality at this point, and I figure once you get to that point it is pretty hard to get back to reality.

I'll  do it for him.....President Barack Obama was previously a constitutional law professor at Harvard University  School of Law so he of course knows nothing about the constitution.

I'd bet my life savings Trump has never read the constitution....and as we saw from the NPR tweets last week, neither have his supporters.

How many indictments were handed down on Obama Administration officials? How many crimes has Hillary been charged and convicted of? You talking pork belly or cattle futures? Real estate deals? Or billing records? Maybe quid pro quos for donations to Clinton Foundation? Define the said trampling of the Constitution or corruption so committed or go home.
