Pearl Jam Tour 2017 Speculation Thread. No Rumors, Just The Odds (source: Tour History)

edited February 2017 in The Porch
So, I was combing through the tour history, and with the guys being inducted into the R&R HoF this year, and things in North America being the way they are (Orangey McTinyHands), I'm thinking the guys will either hit the road & test out their new material, or do a quick run with some angry classics & covers in front of the new album.

I complied this list using the Tour History page, and factored-in the number of times a city has been visited, along with the band's initiative to play new places (like Jacksonville, Hampton, VA, etc.)

To simplify, I left out the actual percentage, and just grouped them according to the odds they produced. The last category ("LONG Overdue") is a bit of a hodgepodge, including one-offs, and states never visited. Please feel free to add a city, and/or speculate!

Houston. That's fair. I think they'd play where the Rockets play. Although, if they hit Texas, they've got to do at least 3 towns to make it fair (or hit a profit). Maybe!

Oh, they would profit in Texas.

Brooklyn is a borough in New York City. You have cities in the same market under different "odds." Poor job.

Same for Chicago/Lollapalooza. And why Saskatoon and not Winnipeg? Winnipeg gets way more shows than Saskatoon does. Obviously this was just an excercise to kill time.

Still no legit rumours for this year.

Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Nashville, Atlanta have to be in the REAL good bet category
Houston has to be at the top of the long overdue category
Hampton, VA is basically Virginia beach, no shot of a show there in my opinion
And Philadelphia should always be in the "a good bet" category... You can never count out Philly shows

Considering they have played Newark and Baltimore once in their 25+ year career I would say they are far from a "Good Bet"

I don't get how Chicago is a "won't play" but Lollapalooza is a good bet.
personally I hope they never play Lolla again. I don't know why any fan would want them to play a fest at all.

Winnipeg should fall in real good bet, and the fact you left it out but included Saskatoon is insulting

  • Not sure they'll be playing Houston or any Texas cities after today's news about the transgender bathroom ruling possibility (the NFL basically said if a law passed like that they wouldn't have any more Superbowls there). My vote is for San Diego. :)

Can you imagine if Pearl Jam toured like Def Leppard, a band that is 10 years older than them? Seriously, look at their last three years of touring. I'm not even a real fan of the band but they put PJ to shame. Touring just isn't in their blood any more.

How about Hartford? Preferably the XL center (indoors). It has been 3 1/2 years. They seem to have confused the location with Manchester, Conn.

I truly think the best US tour, whenever it may be, will be VERY similar to the 2013 tour.

Instead of starting in Pittsburgh and going northeast and then west coast, they will start in Cleveland and go south/Midwest and then west coast.

They haven't played Madison, Wisconsin since 1991. A perfect city for the band. They would sell out in minutes.

I'm not sure that Vancouver is a real good shot, because they played Pemberton last year. Playing Pemberton is to Vancouver, what playing the Gorge is to Seattle. In fact Pemberton is closer to Vancouver than the Gorge is to Seattle.

On the other hand if they're touring the West Coast there's only so many places to play.

Yeah but they played the two PJ20 shows in East Troy in 2011, and Milwaukee in 2014, all within an hour's drive from Madison. Don't get me wrong, I love that area and would love to come back, but there are probably some more under serviced markets.

Atlanta and Nashville were 100% scheduled for the 2016 tour. Bonnaroo was a last minute addition, scratching the two shows due to the radius clause. These were then replaced with Hampton and Greenville.
