  • Saw him open for the legendary Tom Petty at Wrigley Field and he kind of stole the show.  I'm not a big fan of country music but I am hooked on all 3 of his albums.  Great live act too.

I was there too and I agree. I'm not a fan of country overall either, but I do like Chris Stapleton and seeing him live was an absolute treat. I wouldn't mind going to one of his headlining shows.

I just got and listened to Vol 1 on vinyl and it is fantastic. It has a very subtle warp that doesn't impact playback. It is dead quiet, as it needed to be for a couple tracks in particular. Sound is full with his vocals up front and clear. Very happy with this. I got Vol 2 as well and will update when I can listen.

Still not sure if it is worth getting Traveller after some reviews I've read on the pressing

Vol 2 vinyl sounded similar, seems to be recorded well, but this one was very dirty and had a lot of surface noise. It needs a good cleaning and I'll try again.

He's playing right here in my town this summer so it was a no brainer for me. I already liked most of his studio work (and I'm far from a country fan), but seeing him open for Tom Petty at Wrigley last year sealed the deal and I just knew I had to see one of his headlining shows.

Yep, that's a memory I'll always cherish. It was my one and only time to see Tom Petty and it was a hell of a show with those two performing at one of my all time favorite places to be in the world.

The thing about Chris is that his style is just as much Otis Redding, as it is Willie or Waylon. This is what makes him transcend the country genre. I just hope he continues making music for many years to come. He is on his way to becoming one of the great legends.

Completely agree. His ticket prices have seemed outrageous to me. Especially since I'm not into much other country so I don't care for anyone else on the bill when he has come.

For his show a couple of years ago, and then the upcoming one that we're going to, we got tickets through his fan club, which is free. The tickets are GA/Floor and under $100 with fees. He's definitely worth it, and I believe it's cheaper than going through TM.

    everything about it was great+
then i went looking for a local ticket and passed because of the price....
i will go see willie instead  ;)

Don’t quite understand why folks are saying tickets for Stapleton are expensive or overpriced. The dude is a megastar in the Americana and country scenes, and not only that, he’s hands down one of the best guitar players out there right now.

Plus, he’s bringing Margo Price out with him, who is super talented in her own right. Hell, Jack White signed her to Third Man Records.

I just bought tickets for Willie and Allison Krauss and Union Station. $85 a ticket, and those were mid-tier price. Top end tickets were $300 and $150. So, Willie ain’t that cheap...

I meant to look for this thread. It is good, I agree. However, I don't know if it will match his other 3, and I really doubt it will surpass. Traveler is a gem, and From a Room 1&2 are both excellent, just not sure this one can reach that level. Lyrically, he resorts to cliches and the same routine a bit too frequently. But then again, with his voice, I don't really care what he is singing about.

Only other beef is that my vinyl were filthy, record 1 was warped (but did play fine), and record 2 had a HUGE scuff across side C, and even after cleaning it popped on every rotation.

    This is true!
  • His sound is formulaic - the same verse chorus repeat, with small alterations to the chorus subject or tense or whatever. It’s pretty simple, in a lot of ways - not in a bad way. But, if you dig the formula, and you’re looking for something that’s pretty easy to understand and not too intense, then I don’t think there’s anything better out there
