the Pearl Jam Archives

Was thinking about this today and it made me think about the progress of the band and where we might see them go in the next 10-20 years. After PJ20 was released Cameron Crowe and the band had discussed how they had went through hundreds of hours worth of video and footage. And I know that they also must have hundreds of demos, live recordings, or scrapped material for songs and albums. Because they are a band that's similar to Neil Young in how they operate and how it's all very "in-house", do any of you think that at some point during their future careers that Pearl Jam will ever have something similar to the Archives collection that Neil is releasing?

some artists like to release everything they create or almost create to give the listener a bird's eye view of their process. neil young, billy corgan, et all.

    others are like pearl jam.

I can't see them ever doing that. and for the most part, I'm ok with that. wiht Billy Corgan/SP, out of all of the literally hundreds of alternate versions of songs and boombox demos and acoustic writings and whatnot, I have found one or two that are worth buying, never mind even listening to a second time. you have to be an absolute completist to want to hear all that stuff.

I think the PJ20 soundtrack stuff is the closest to archives we'll ever get.

That would be amazing! Listen to the early years on Blu-ray audio?!? *drools

Too bad Neil hasn't done a Volume 2. Volume 1 was released what like 8 years ago? Can't remember now.

Vol. 2 has been almost ready for about 5 years now... It drives me mad. The unreleased albums that are rumored to be a part of it have me excited, but Neil needs slow down and concentrate on one thing at a time. Every time I think we're getting close to a release, he's releasing another album.

I wish they didn't operate solely "in-house" for archival stuff. Neil has his hands all over his archives and we either get chopped up live shows or underwhelming stuff like in archives 1 (although I do have hope archives 2 will be better...only been waiting 5 years for that).

The band needs to get an outside voice (ME) to be in charge of selecting stuff to be released. Band of course has to sign off on everything, but just remove them from the process like the Dead have done and the material will flow out
