Julian Casablancas of the Strokes. He hits all the boxes - influenced by PJ, loved by Rolling Stone (Strokes played a major Rolling Stone party a few years back and Ed came out and did a song with them) and is younger which seems to be the trend that negates Young Townshend, Springsteen. Although U2 did get inducted by Springsteen which was strange. I'd even say KoL has a shot based on the criteria. What I don't understand everybody saying is Jack White? There's very little cross pollination there. I know he played with PJ recently and there's mutual respect, but Jack White's thing is the blues.
I believe the HOF criteria is having been inspired by the artist and produced music in a similar vein.
To me it should be Kings of Leon.
In what way is KoL music similar to PJs?
You hear a lot of Ed Vedder in Caleb Followill's voice. Also, the bands don't need to be identical, both are alternative rock bands, I think that's good enough.

When do you typically find out who inducts them? The night of the ceremony?

Short list of previous PJ collaborators/friends who fit the bill (i.e. they are of a younger generation, have enjoyed a certain degree of success, are potentially capable of pulling off an honorable speech): Julian Casablancas, Caleb Followill, Josh Homme, Jack White, Corin Tucker, Liam Finn, Glen Hansard.
Can't see guys like Young, Springsteen or even Cornell being asked to do this.
Gleason would definitely be legit...and a very PJ way to go about using the platform to raise awareness. I'd like this.
Glen Hansard would be my favorite personal choice.
Kings of Leonardo seem like my favorite logical choice. They make some pretty good rock and roll music. I don't know a ton about them other than I like what I have heard. Death Cab for Cutie fits this bill for me too.

I think in order to elevate the status of being inducted PJ should bring a child who suffers from EB onstage and dedicate the win to them. Instead of saying I don't know what this means.

They're not going to say that. They're not in their twenties anymore.

that was obviously a throwback to ed's grammy speech.

my money is on #1 or #2.
I understand how in the past it seems to be a tradition to have someone who the inductee has influenced, but Michael Stipe inducted Nirvana, so that tradition has exceptions. I think the smart money is on Cornell. He was the roommate and best friend of Ed's predecessor, he's great friends with the whole band, recorded an album and recently toured with all of them minus Ed, came up in the ranks of Seattle's explosion at the same time; to me it just makes sense.
