Probably going to snag one of these after the holidays. Price is only going to go up... 650 will be a bargain for this in a few years
Good luck on the sale!

'will be a bargain' and 'nice to see' the art itself is the focus, correct?
It is a f'n donkey king ripoff. Barely art. Let it go. Collecting sometimes has nothing to do with art, but with possibility for value appreciation and trying to complete a set. Ask the artists if they are upset that the DK is sold for $600 now. Guess what, they aren't because it helps sales of their current work and their reputation.

It's an interesting question... does the fact that it resembles a pop culture video game make it less worthy of being called art? My opinion would be yes it is art... if an Andy Warhol Campbell's Soup Can is considered art than I think we can count The Kong as art as well. But it's definitely subjective and people are allowed to say they don't like a particular piece of art.

Agree. Flipping helps the artists and PJ. People hate flippers, but it helps keep the interest level sky high and keeps people waiting in line for hours to buy two posters they haven't seen or know who the artists are. Once posters become valuable people become interested. It's part of the fun/addiction.
I find it hilarious when people want to buy at a "reasonable" price and expect people to be human and sell on the cheap. But those people wouldn't be interested if they were $50 posters. Interested to see if PJ prints a ton for next tour like they did for stadium shows. I think it would be a mistake.
That poster is almost 7 years old at this point, it can't even be considered flipping.
Kong, Pitt 2013, and CrackerJack are only going to go higher and higher in value as the years go on. Strike now, or you'll only pay more in the long run. Right or wrong, its the way it is, and the way it's going to be.

People selling on the cheap around here are few and far between lately. As someone else posted in a recent thread - 'this place is like EBay minus the seller fees'. No one is expecting anyone to sell on the cheap - if I was the artist, I'd be selling my Pearl Jam work for more money seeing as how many fans are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a concert poster.
My perspective of a community is a place where people help each other out. Price gouging fellow members on artistic items that you yourself had zero to do with creating is off. I'm not knocking the original thread poster. If someone is willing to spend 'x' amount on a $40 concert poster then so be it. Personally, I'd rather not see those offerings here on the Lost Dogs forum - take that stuff to EBay. I realize I can go elsewhere What would be great is if the mods initiated a 'trading only' sub forum within the Flea Market section Have a good day.
Yeah I agree. Different subject. Should help each other out. I just find those who want to be helped out generally aren't interested in an item until it becomes valuable.
And that isn't all people. I've been on both sides of helping each other out. But if King is worth $600 I have no problems with people selling for 600. If I owned one 100 wouldn't make me sell, but there are life events that happen that would make me strongly consider selling at a certain price. So I have no problem with selling at market value. But on this forum everything should at least be market down by fees and those savings should be passed along to buyer.

You just don't understand. The artists are not giving away their art. They are selling it. The artist is the first person to put a value on the artwork. A sale occurs. Ownership rights transfer to the buyer. Th artist received full compensation for their effort. The artist is not owed anything after this point in time, and the artwork is now someone else's property to do what they wish.

I agree with all of this. Was it directed to me? I like this discussion.
Sorry to OP if it's jacking the thread, but at least it's in top. Good luck with sale.

No, to BF9. The quoting feature was all jacked up.

Simple yet brilliant.

I personally never really liked kong but the pitt one I always thought was super cool. If you like it though, good deal, that's what art is, it's all subjective.

Agreed.
I almost think there is 2 different conversations going on here. The first is about the price, start price $35 (or less depending on the price at that time) and 6 years later the market demand drives it to $600. Does this happen to all posters? I think the answer is no. But as long as people are willing to pay X amount for it, it will continue to rise. It's not like they are still producing them, whatever number was produced, that's it. The second conversation, as I have mentioned in several posts here is the creativity factor. Donkey Kong was a hit video game for me growing up, so yeah when I see it, I don't really think it's original at all. The graphics, the concept and idea, not much creativity IMO. I've always wondered what Nintendo would say about someone 'using' their art to profit. However, when I look at something like Pitt 13, it nails it, Steeltown, Mike's guitars, and of course the shimmer ink. It just grabs your attention when you see it, it's awesome. So should Pitt be selling for higher than Kong? Or vise vera? As for popularity, they are both top dogs. As original art, not a chance. To each their own. That's my 2 cents.
Priced in line with the eBay prices for sure- last 6 have averaged $605. That said- no fees here...OP would have no trouble selling for $550/$575 which is the rough net on eBay.
There's an unopened mystery box on eBay for $900 if someone wants to roll the dice and hope there's a Kong inside.
Haha. That's awesome. $900. Wow.
I saw someone was asking $250 for bootleg stickers and a couple legit stickers that are probably worth $40 combined.
OP - We keep bumping and no one is attacking your price so hopefully you are cool with this! Also, I don't mean that this NYC print isn't art. I'm sure lots of effort went into it. Back in the day where I bought posters I liked regardless of attendance I passed on this one and still don't see the draw.
