  • i just saw that they were acquitted.

Doesn't matter what we think, it's what the jury thinks through our federal legal process.

Here's the basic Wikipedia synopsis to catch you up a bit:

"On January 2, 2016, armed militants seized the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Harney County, Oregon, United States, and continued to occupy it until law enforcement made a final arrest on February 11, 2016. Their leader was Ammon Bundy, who participated in the 2014 Bundy standoff at his father's Nevada ranch. Other members of the group were loosely affiliated with non-governmental militias and the sovereign citizen movement.

The organizers were seeking an opportunity to advance their view that the United States Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and other agencies are constitutionally required to turn over most of the federal public land they manage to the individual states. In 2015, the militants decided they could do this by protesting the treatment of two area ranchers convicted of federal land arson, even though the men in question did not want their help. The occupation began when Bundy led an armed party to the refuge headquarters following a peaceful public rally in the nearby city of Burns.

On January 26, 2016, several leaders were arrested by the Oregon State Police (OSP) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while en route to a public meeting in a neighboring county. One of them, Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, was shot and killed while resisting arrest and appearing to reach his hands towards his semi-automatic handgun. Afterwards, most of the other militants withdrew from the occupation, peacefully returning to their homes.

By January 28, only four militants remained in occupation of the site, and the last of them surrendered peacefully on February 11, 2016. More than two dozen of the militants have been charged with federal offenses including conspiracy to obstruct federal officers, firearms violations, theft, and depredation of federal property. As of August 15, twelve have pleaded guilty, while others are awaiting trial.

On October 27, 2016, a jury acquitted seven of the defendants, including Ammon and Ryan Bundy, of all federal charges."

    From Robert Reich. ....

On the same day that a jury acquitted the Bundy brothers and their fellow protesters for taking over federal land in Oregon last January, police in North Dakota today used pepper spray gas and a painful high-pitched siren, and then arrested 117 Native Americans and others for protesting a private oil pipeline across land they say belongs to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe under a 19th-century treaty. In other words, it's fine to mount an armed insurrection so your cattle can graze for free on federal land, but not if you want to protect your sacred burial ground or your only source of water from a private for-profit oil pipeline company.

They arent protestors unless they are blocking traffic, burning down cities, and called the Black Lives Matter...otherwise they are a hinderance

both the Indians and this "militia" should be left alone in these separate cases

People who block traffic and damage propery are often charged and convicted. These protesters should've also been convicted and also be made to pay back the damage they did.

Way different, unsung. One is a group of indigenous people still having their land and culture taken by force after hundreds of years, the other a group of white guys trying to commandeer public lands. You can't honestly be implying these situations are similar.

I'll take your bait. It is about land rights, and how public land (emphasis public) should be managed. The entitled ranchers want to destroy the land while trying to make money, clinging to a dying occupation. The gun issue heightened the level of intimidation, but also revealed how entitled they feel they are.

You quoted me and yet are saying "you guys". Come on man, I'm not that schizophrenic.

And really, you've gotta know by now when I think or believe something relevant here. I SAY IT!

I've stated my thoughts about guns (oh, that fuckery of a subject) elsewhere. Now that you mention it, the only thing that is a gun issue here for me is that you have a group of unarmed Native Americans being confronted by heavily armed cops with heavy armored vehicles coming in desecrating sacred lands and breaking treaties YET AGAIN in one issue (North Dakota pipeline), and a bunch of yahoo militia types who are armed coming in and trying to commandeer public lands. Those are the only relevance to guns in these issues. And don't try to tell me otherwise because some of my other me's might not like that. We stand by what we think.

    No you don't.

    Yes I do, damn it.

Hey, you're both full of shit.

    Fuck off.

Well, those were some of the charges brought against them:
possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in federal facilities
use and carry of firearms in relation to a crime of violence

And yes, I do take issue with this:

I do too but I guess I just take it for granted that militia yahoo types are also gun toting types. They might have had grenades or rocket launchers or star wars laser swords or searing eyeball beams. They are militia therefor they are armed. The issue for me here is more about how they think it's OK to steal public lands and to be against government yet without having anything useful with which to replace it.

When I saw the makeup of that jury, I just knew that these people were going to acquit one of their own. The fact is that these people feel that they are entitled to do whatever they want. Their culture says that if you don't want to listen to "The Man" that you can just go ahead and and act like a wild savage. They have enablers and pimps in the media that make excuses for these animals.

I'm sorry if that offends the PC Police, but I'm just telling it like it is. The sad part is that these thugs are now emboldened to commit more crimes in their own communities and against their own people. These people will never rise up and overcome until they address the problems in their culture.

    Sad!
