John Bolton, former United Nations ambassador under George W. Bush, insisted in the New York Times that “defeating the Islamic State” is “neither feasible nor desirable” if Assad remains in power. Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham asserted that “defeating Islamic State also requires defeating Bashar Assad.” Kenneth Pollack of the Brookings Institution prescribed a policy of “building a new Syrian opposition army capable of defeating both President Bashar al-Assad and the more militant Islamists.” Similarly, Max Boot, a contributing writer to this newspaper, argued that vanquishing Islamic State was futile unless the U.S. also moved to depose the “Alawite regime in Damascus.” Like other regime-change salesmen, he pitched a no-fly zone across the country to facilitate airstrikes against the Assad government, while boosting aid to the so-called moderate rebels.
For a while, everywhere one looked, the media was peddling the same narrative. The Daily Beast described Islamic State fighters as “Assad’s henchmen.” The New York Timespromoted the idea that “Assad’s forces” have been “aiding” Islamic State by “not only avoiding” the group “but actively seeking to bolster their position.” Time parroted the pro-regime-change line that “Bashar Assad won't fight” Islamic State.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Sunday jogged the memory of the Western partner about their "successes" in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan in comment to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drina’s statement that Russia has "arrogated" the defeat of Islamic State (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) in Syria.
"The Western partners have been saying in the recent days that it was not Russia but them, the coalition to defeat Islamic State in Syria. The last to say this was French Foreign Minister Mr. Le Drian," she wrote on her Facebook account. "Dear Sirs, stop it! Your successes are Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan. Come on, be proud of them."

Assad: "This victory and the arrival of President Vladimir Putin is a great display of honour for me. And I'm very happy about your arrival, your first visit to Syria in such times on this matter. It is a great honour for me."
Team Trump Treason imploring Turkey to be “humane.” Are you kidding me? There’s not an ounce of humanity in that empty suit. What do you suggest the Turks do Team Trump Treason? Shoot them with popcorn and cotton candy?
And speaking of Cotton, is the roaring warrior ready to publicly back Team Trump Treason’s abandonment of the Kurds? C’mon Tom, you’re all in, right? Sucker.
Why should US military personnel always be put in harm's way to protect people in faraway lands? Especially the middle east and its endless wars.
Those of you here who think young Americans should always risk their lives in the middle east are free to join the Kurds and their fight...just 40 minutes down the road a young man from Canada died fighting with the Kurds. And if you are too old to join I hope you are encouraging your kids or grandkids to join the fight. Or do you ONLY like sacrificing OTHER people?

They're not in harm's way, that's the point. The presence of these 1000 troops deterred action by Turkey. In the ISIS fight, we lost less than 10 men. The Kurds lost over 10k.
And your argument is a false premise. They weren't drafted. There's no mystery or bait and switch about what it means to join today's US military.
They did not join to fight other people’s war. When are you signing up and bring your kids...you should take off the star spangled glass’s...the US is war mongering nation. You get 0 sympathy from me when terror strikes the US. Get your nose out everyone’s business. The world needs less US not more. And Turkey should be kicked out NATO.
You guys have killed millions in the Middle East, disrupted so many people’s lives. Personally what you did in Iraq should be called genocide.

Again, a specious argument. The current special forces units in Syria is comprised of men and women in 20 and 30s. We were there when thrley joined the forces. How the hell do you know why they joined? Your argument is predicated on a Vietnam mindset. This isn't the guard or the reserve like Iraq.
So America and ABC had a discussion and decided to go this route? Fascinating conspiracy theory. Did America instruct them to retract and apologize too? Did the conversation between America and ABC take place in person or was it a phone call?
THIS here is a prime example of today's reporting. This wasn't the Channel Six News Team at 11 fucking up this bad ... this was prime time Sunday evening national news! And on the biggest morning show the next day. By one of the big 3! If I was running ABC I would have asked for everyone in the production to hand in their resignation letters by 9 am the next morning and I would include my own for letting the ship drift this far ashore.

Really? You would have resigned your job? That seems a bit hyperbolic

If i had journalist integrity I would ... luckily i'm not in that profession.
Funny that, the poster complaining about the lack of criticism of Syria or Russia, in a presumption of the over criticism of Israel, was the last one to post in a thread on Syria. 21 pages deep, I might add.

You understand the USA had a tiny force in NE Syria to defeat ISIS and keep the region stable?
You understand that as a result of Trump's hasty decision hundreds of ISIS terrorists escaped?
You understand these terrorists will kill again?
You understand their likely victims are civilians including women and children?
You understand the terrorists will likely target western nations?
You understand your country could be a target?
