SHIT. I have been watching full pj shows for the past couple weeks at work (pretty awesome, i know).... i have been trying to go somewhat chronologically.
If you have the time, it been super fun to watch the evolution of the band.
probably whatever company the band uses to collect royalties requested that it be removed. band probably doesn't even realize it.
I don't give the band a pass on anything... they claim to be DIY so I assume they are involved in most decisions... it is their band afterall... didn't they just sign up for blocking videos on YouTube?
"I wasn't going to buy the Wrigley Blu-ray but now that they've blocked all the YouTube videos I guess I will."
- No one. Ever.
Hahaha. I'm with this.
Don't really see how anyone can be upset about this other than the folks who did all the work editing the videos. I loved those videos and listened to a bunch of them, but they obviously included the band's official bootleg audio, which is copyrighted material. It was just a matter of time. Sad to see them go, but glad we got to enjoy them while we did. Maybe they'll get them back up with a fan audio source. This would be fine, right?

I can be as upset as I want to. This fucking sucks. Those videos were a treasure for fans. Unless they are going to start releasing their own vids of all their shows, they need to get them back up. Greed.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th 1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California Nothing since then. I suck. 2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights 2022- Oakland Night 2 2024 Sacramento, CA
the band added a video page on this site when it was updated. always thought maybe they would be adding some of their own videos from shows. makes sense with all the filming they have done over the years.
They have the right to do whatever they want with audio that they own. These videos utilize that audio. They have the right to take them down.
On the other hand we absolutely have the right to point out how lame and short-sighted this is, and this is plenty of both. These videos are a labor of love for the band and its music, and they are distributed freely. This isn't someone bootlegging merchandise to make money. These are fans sharing the music they love with other fans.
Just because there are legitimate reasons to do this does not mean that doing it is the right thing to do.
Pearl Jam records video from every show. I see no problem with removing these videos. This is an avenue for Pearl Jam to make money.
And for all bands. The music industry is in such a strange place right now. Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, YouTube, torrents (if people still pirate this way), even my public library system makes it so easy to find whatever I want, whenever I want it... If video is going to be such a big part of the way that people appreciate (and consume) music, then bands must be protective of their material and should uphold policies about filming, taping and publishing. If no such policies exist and people want to take fan-acquired audio/video. and make something "original" to share without personal gain... cool! Otherwise, this is something that bands should do. Hopefully this type of move by this particular band means that they will provide us with something similar - something that will also be of higher quality than fan bootlegs - for us to enjoy. Something that includes Wrigley 7/19/13, 8/20/16 and 8/22/16, perhaps.
Is it weird that I feel ancient for still wanting to listen to music an album at a time with my ears?
I don't know about being short-sighted. People who will sit down and watch a full concert are already hardcore fans that they don't need to convert. I don't think any casual or non-fans are going to sit down and watch a full concert and become a huge fan that will buy tickets and merch.
Not a big surprise. They probably wouldn't have the same demand for people to buy the upcoming Wrigley (or more) DVD's that might come out, if people have free avenues to see full shows.
