Need Advice: Vinyl Damaged in Shipping

Purchased from a fellow 10c'er on here. Packing was insufficient and the box was partially crushed in transit. One has light damage, another has a tear at the crease, another has a dent in the corner and two rips on the bottom. The vinyl itself looks to be undamaged. This damage wasn't present in initial photos from the seller.

The seller insured with USPS, for less than the purchase price though. Additionally I purchased with PayPal using goods & services, so we both have some level of protection here.

What step should I take now? They clearly still have some value, but not what I paid for them. I'd also like to make sure I don't screw the fellow 10c seller in the process here.

    The crushed box isnt on the seller unless they shipped it in tissue paper. Did they ship it in a regular lp mailer?

    Larger Amazon box with the 3 LPs floating loose in there. Two were in plastic sleeves that they came with. Only packing material was a single paper packing sheet which Amazon uses. Some air bubbles or LP mailers and they would have survived. Still I agree box shouldn't have been crushed to begin with.

    the person who shipped should be able to contact USPS to recoup some of the money.....

    buyers can file claims with USPS now too, easier than relying on someone else

    Im all for that except I reuse mailers when possible. If its in good shape, looks sturdy and in tact, it's getting used again.

    Yes - re-using mailer built for shipping records is a good practice. Save those boxes and buy some shipping tape!!!!

    I've been saving mailers and Amazon vinyl boxes for future shipping needs.

    I don't understand why people ship things so poorly. If you sell something for $1, or $1000, package it properly. And use common sense.

    I have a corner of my basement reserved for empty vinyl shipping boxes, bubble wrap and empty poster tubes too just waiting for me to need to ship something to someone else. That pile just keeps getting bigger and hubby is starting to question why. :i_dunno:

    Can't file a claim online via USPS, guess I'll visit a post office tomorrow. Seller is in Canada so that might complicate things.

    A friend bought me 4 Fenway posters and shipped them in a tube. The tube was punctured, and all had some damage. Unfortunately, he didn't get enough insurance. I ended up with $50 from USPS.
