Cancer Fan Backstage

My mom is battling cancer for the second time. (Metastatic cancer that spread from her breasts to her lymph nodes, kidneys, and all through her bones.) She is a HUGE Pearl Jam fan. (So much so that I used to get embarrassed when my friends would come over, because she would blast the latest live recording and dance in the living room...) She is going through chemo, and during her "off week," she is traveling to see Pearl Jam (well just saw them tonight in South Carolina) and tomorrow in Virginia Beach. It is her biggest joy. Does anyone know of a way she could meet the band? I know it would mean so much to her. I am across the country in college, so posting on here was the only way I could think of to try to do something for her.

If you know of a way, please let me know.

Thanks! Rock on :)

Perhaps email or call the venue and explain your moms situation (including cell #) and ask them to forward it to PJ's tour manager. Its a long shot, but you never know. Good luck to you and your your Mom!

same here all the best and hope you make it back there with her!

see and thats the other cool thing about pearl jam...finding out new things about friends and seeing and feeling how much a song like Alive means to them. And despite it being played all the time...I dont see the band every day so I enjoy and appreciate alive every time...I appreciate being alive.
Aah, fuck it, I’m just gonna go home, turn on the fuckin’ TV...

Much love to your mom, I wish her the best in her battle against that damn disease- If there is a way, she will get to meet them some day, and that will give her a reason to fight for another day...although having a loving child is good enough reason to never give up!!!!
  • To all of you who posted, thank you so much for your responses. My mom didn't get to meet the band (yet... I am not giving up hope, and neither is she- neither about the cancer nor her dreams), but she did get close at the show in Virginia Beach: When my mom went to the will-call to pick up her tickets and mentioned her situation, the woman presented her with 2nd row tickets. My dad tells me she cried tears of joy.

Thanks you again for your responses. I plan to show my mom your kindness and encouragement- I know she will appreciate it deeply.

    ROCK ON!

And that is why you will probably never meet the band.

Hello all you beautiful Pearl Jam fans who have replied to my daughter's thread. Thank you so much for all of your kind words, wishes & prayers. Last night, my daughter (just home from college) came into my room. She sat on the chair by my bed & read to me the thread she had put out to you all & the thoughtful responses you sent back to her. She cried while she read them. I never got to meet the band, but I went to 3 shows on this tour - Columbia, SC, VA Beach, & Washington DC. I had fabulous seats for all of them and they were the best Pearl Jam shows I've ever seen. AND I met the nicest fellow fan club members. I may not have met the band, but I was reminded how blessed I am to have a wonderful husband and two wonderful children. My love to you all, Ann

I highly doubt the band even reads these threads, but if they did, I can almost bet they would have tried to do something for you. I could be wrong, but it just seems like they would do whatever they could in special circumstances like this. I'm just glad you were able to get 2nd row. That is flipping great. I just said an extra prayer for you and your family. Keep up the fight.

    Ann --

I was behind you at the ticket line in Virginia Beach, and your utter joy & delight when you got that 2nd row seat was contagious. All of us around you were smiling, and happy for you. Thank you for being so excited -- it set the tone for the rest of the concert for me.
