The best setlist ever?

  • Philly is the winner over the last five years I'd say.

That was one of the best shows I have ever been to -even considering how bad my seats were. PJ was great & the setlist was awesome.

Me too. Those were the worst seats I've had for a PJ show, but it's the best show I've seen.

Funny, I mean I know they have a LOT of songs they can mix it up with and just surprise you with covers (like, which show had most covers done?) but all these sets begin to kinda look familiar, so what 5-10 songs are swapped? Maybe half of them? Or am I just burnt cause I have soo many boots so I think all these sets really aren't all that different? My eyes just blur looking at sets now unless "something" jumps out at me...

I think back to the Dead touring and you could see them 3 days in a row and not hear the same song once. See 'em 10-20 times a year and hear a few songs twice? Admittedly, they'd only play 12-16 songs cause each was like 8 - 10 mins minimum!

As with them, it's the "rare" songs that really make for special shows, as well as the venue's energy. Where's that cutoff for rare songs? Under 20 times lifetime? Only played 1-3 times a year? I dunno....

So that's why I think Vic 07 is just nuts, really a "fans" show of shows, no need to hear all the classic, you've heard 'em and will hear 'em again. I literally shit my pants when I saw the Vic set.

Then I just got Buffalo '03 and what 4-5 covers in the space of 7-8 songs? Driven to Tears, Crazy Mary (i know, but it IS a cover), Sonic Reducer, People Have the Power, Baba O'Riely.... and just phenomenal sound on those boots.

But then yeah, shows I've seen? SFIII '06! Light Years, Down, Sad, MFC, Untitled, In Hiding, Man of the Hour, Leash, oh yeah, and "it just feels like a san francisco song" Watchtower -- which most of those were kinda rare just for that 06 tour (esp Untitled, LY, MFC and Watchtower -- so 4 rare songs and another 4-5 played at less than 1/3 of '06 shows).

I think the Boston,MSG and Mexico City shows from '03 were the best setlists ever. The Vic Theatre,Katowice 2000 and MSG 98 have definitely gotta be up there too.

you could list all of the 2007 europe side shows in the same boat with the quality of dusseldorf. london, copenhagen, munich...
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.
  • Philly 2005 is the one. It would also be the best BOOTLEG if it wasn't a shit MP3!

Agree. But all of the boots from that tour sounded that way, not just Philly. Philly actually sounds better than some of the Canadian boots.

The best setlist ever is the one where they played all the songs that I was in the mood for that night. Everything seemed to hit the spot..

It's happened a few times for me, no specifics.

Grand Rapids set list was pretty good. Nice variety, 1st Encore kicks major ass. Sleight of hand, Off he goes, Around the bend, Parting Ways, Hard to Imagine, Crazy Mary and Alive.

I am so sick of people suggesting that the only good part of Boston 3 (7/11/03) was the accoustic set..

there were soo many gems from the main set that were NOT rushed..
(listen to the boot if you doubt me) such as:

Tremor Christ (rare performance.. tight as hell)
    Given To Fly (soaring)
Nothing As It Seems (mikey wails)
Cropduster(tight tight tight with Ed's drunken praise for Matt)
Faithful (saved especially for "evening number 3" with lots of F-bombs from Ed)
Wishlist/(Why Can't I Touch It?): emotional as hell
trilogy: Leatherman, Nothingman (great vocals from Ed), Better Man
    1/2 Full
    Untitled/MFC
    Blood (heavy metal rage)
    enc 1:
    Breath (better than MSG)
    Habit
and Black (goosebump performance with Ed's "all I;ll beeeeeeeeeeeeee" and Mikey's guitar sobs, whale cries...
    then
    ARC!

    now that's a show!

I completely agree. There was no flaw that night. Just enough rarities, just enough hits. High energy. Perfect crowd.

even the crazy mary 'FLAW' was awesome, because of the band's reaction!

It was played at Boston III. Just not on the boots.

    11/19/06-Newcastle, Australia.

Set 1 Alive, Life Wasted, Severed Hand, Save You, Insignificance, Unemployable, Brain Of J., Red Mosquito, Given To Fly, Last Exit, Hail Hail, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Better Man, Daughter(War), Whipping, Leatherman, Down, Do The Evolution, Undone, Rearviewmirror

Encore 1 Thumbing My Way, Masters Of War, Footsteps, Crown Of Thorns, Alone, Even Flow

Encore 2 Corduroy, Fuckin' Up, Rockin' In The Free World, Yellow Ledbetter/Little Wing

20 songs in the first set, 30 songs total. Not only is this an amazing setlist, but the performance is top notch. This could replace Bonnaroo as my favorite boot. They are on fire for this show, even the Ed fuckups are great!

About all of my shows deserve, at least, a mention, sans Chicago 03, but it did have Arc

Indy 00: (Interstellar Overdrive)/Corduroy, Grievance, Spin The Black Circle, Dissident, Brain of J, Animal, Given To Fly, Nothing As It Seems, Even Flow, Pilate, Lukin, Light Years, (Romanza)/Better Man/(Save It For Later), Leatherman, Not For You, Black, Insignificance, Go
enc 1: Throw Your Arms Around Me [Ed solo], Do The Evolution, State of Love and Trust, Crazy Mary, Elderly Woman, Last Kiss, Rearviewmirror
enc 2: Indifference, Rockin' In The Free World

St Lou 03: Present Tense, Save You, Animal, Green Disease, Grievance, Faithfull, Given To Fly, Even Flow, Sleight Of Hand, You Are, Elderly Woman, Not For You/Love Boat Captain, Wishlist, Help Help, Do The Evolution, Alive
enc 1: Go, State Of Love And Trust, Black, Improv/Rearviewmirror
enc 2: Soon Forget, Better Man/(Save it for Later), Daughter, Indifference

Indy 03: Long Road, Interstellar Overdrive/Corduroy, Whipping, Save You, Given To Fly, Cropduster, I Am Mine, Thin Air, Gimme Some Truth, Present Tense, MFC, Habit, Jeremy, Even Flow, Better Man/(Why Can't I Touch It?), Black, Porch
enc 1: Soldier Of Love, Blood, State Of Love And Trust, Do The Evolution, Alive
enc 2: Smile, Elderly Woman, Sonic Reducer, Yellow Ledbetter

St Lou VFC: Love Boat Captain, Last Exit, Animal, Save You, The American in Me, Corduroy, Immortality, Alone, Jeremy, In My Tree, Wishlist, Rearviewmirror
enc 1 (acoustic): I Am A Patriot (Ed solo), Man Of The Hour, Elderly Woman, Off He Goes, All Or None, Black
enc 2: The Seeker, Do The Evolution, State Of Love And Trust, Better Man/(Save It For Later), The New World (w/Tim Robbins), Fortunate Son
    enc 3: Yellow Ledbetter

Maybe its sour grapes, but alotta the shows I have been to seem underrated. Quality over quantity, I say. Sure Boston 3 03 and State College have more songs, but they are 2 of the sloppiest shows PJ has ever played.
