Film Crew Was Horrible At Times @ Fenway

The crew the band used to shoot the video for the screens must not know the bands show at all. They stayed on Matt the whole time Mike was shreading a solo during one song.WTH?
And the use of the overhead shot, although cool, was grossly overused,in my opinion.

And why was half the show in black&white and the rest color?

Anyone else agree that the crew could have done a much better overall job?
It was great a lot of the time, don't get me wrong.

Are you referring to night 1 or night 2? Night 2 was severely better in that aspect. I remember thinking the same thing night 1. Most of the show was in black and white. It wasn't towards the later part of the show that they added color. Must have been a glitch or something.

The black and white to color as at request by the band. This was a question during the HOB event Q&A.

Actually the guy in charge of the filming did a very casual Q&A after the Sat screening of the 8/5 show. The movement from blk & wht to color was intentional, although I don't remember the explanation beyond it being like the evolution and progression of the show itself. Anyone else that was at HOB remember more of the answer?

oh man I gotta respectfully disagree. I was in the stands both nights and spent a ton of time watching the screens, moreso night 1 than 2 though. I thought it was excellent for a real-time broadcast. I especially liked the encore 1 portion of night 1 and the wide angle sweeping shots of the seated band. night 2 we were in better seats and focused more on the stage, but I never felt like the video screens were anything less than the best I've ever seen at a show.

not trying to list my concert viewing resume or anything, but I watch a lot of webcasts (jambands like Phish, Dead & Co & Widespread Panic mostly) and the live webcast and/or in-show screens are never great. Solos by the non-primary soloist are often switched to late, vocals by the non-primary vocalist are missed, etc. I thought PJ this weekend was the best I'd seen by far.

Yeah I thought it was great both nights. Really enjoyed the film look it had.

I thought the film crew did an amazing job! they got stuck on matt for like 30 seconds of a 3+ hour show. I thought it was real cool to see all the angles of the crowd and see ed's kids (i'm guessing) run and crawl behind the drum set while they were playing lol.

Couldn't disagree more... Loved the creativity in direction of the video!!! The black & white > color transition reminded me of its use in Wizard of Oz (possibly the inspiration).

I was on the floor both nights and ended up watching the screens most of the time. I thought it was excellent for the most part (except for the few comical crotch shots of Jeff).
If it is released on Bluray, I am uneasy about it being mostly black and white...

I though it was among the best I had seen at concerts.

If they use that footage for a blue ray, it won't have to be black and white... It's recorded in full color. The B&W is a simple digital setting.

I'd much rather look at Matt for an entire song or 30 seconds which ever it really was then spend and entire verse or what felt even longer of a female someone in the pit during a slow song. No offense if someone knows that I'm referring to it isn't personal  - I came to see the band. And honestly !!!!!! I wish they spent more time sharing the screen I get people wanna see Ed but a quick 2 seconds here and there of the other 3 isn't enough!

Agreed, people on here complain about weird shit....I did though think it was funny that while filming Mike during a solo they focused on his face but I'd like to actually see him play the guitar....I actually think they did a good job of sharing the screen and cool visuals...mostly people are just bitchers and whiners ....probably the same people who complain that they've been to 125 shows and didn't get good enough seats this time....but hey...you do you ....

I dunno...even with the beauty of Tool on the screens, concerts have always been more of an aural vs visual experience for me.

on night 2 they kept the camera on the same guy in the audience for too long. Even merged him with Eddie at the beginning of Better Man.

Pretty sure the black and white is used for when it's still daylight to provide more contrast and make it more visible. Once the sun went down they went to color.

You can ask for a refund if you were that offended... Oh wait...

There are so many aspects of the band no one will be happy with any angle at anytime. I understand about more Mike, however if you have ever spent a show near "Mike's Side: I remember spending nearly the entire Tulsa show just watching Mike. The only few seconds of the show I didn't focus on him he pinged me in the head with a guitar pick on the second one and I took that as fair warning.

Too be fair Matt Cameron is one of the hardest working drummers in show business. Playing drums for 3 hours sets...

The director said at the HOB that the band requests him to shoot the main set in black and white and the encores in color. He likes to do the transition during a song so he usually does it during the last song of the main set.

Did anyone else notice on the screen on Stone's side night 2 sometimes there was a glitch with the color? I don't think it was intentional. I watched more of the screen than the stage and I thought it was pretty f-in great. I don't typically support the opinion that every show should be available as an HD movie download, because we already get the bootlegs and I have to wonder how much is too much when it comes to live show archives, BUT the footage that night made me understand the desire to have that available.

At the Q&A they said the band wants them to do B&W for the first part (till end of first set or so).

Though it was pretty good, I'm assuming they weren't as drunk while filming as the were during the Q and A. I hope they release the video for the second night. There was a really cool shot I'd love to see again.....the super casual hand off of the guitar from mcCreedy to Matt's son(I'm assuming that was his son) so cool so casual wicked awesome. Lucky kid.
