It was easy for me. I took a look in the mirror, realized I was too damn old to collect posters, and haven't bought any in years. Actually, I think I have bought 2 in the last 3 years.
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
That worked for me. Haven't bought a poster in years. I realized that I have a bunch of posters that aren't framed and that I haven't even looked in years. What is the point? I buy vinyl (which I listen to) and the occasional t-shirt (which I wear the hell out of) and that's it. If I won't consume it, I won't buy it.
"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/08
At first I downsized to only shows I attended. Now I only buy shows I attended that are framable. That has narrowed down my purchases considerably.

To anyone outside this group, I realize how stupid this question may be, but it's an honest one... Has anyone here stopped collecting posters?
Try joining Posterholics Anonymous. (Affectionately known as "Friends of Brad K") They have meetings 3 nights a week in the local high school art room. You don't have to speak if you don't want to, you can just listen to other PA members tell their tales of woe like missing the mortgage payment to get that '06 DC reaper or raiding the kid's college fund for the '98 Hartford Tree. This one guy last week was so funny, had us all in stiches talking about his wife's reaction to when he hung ManBearPig on the ceiling above their bed. He had the disease bad.
Ha, yea, I realize my question sounded much more like a support group introduction than intended. Just realized I'm stressing out about trying to get 6 posters, rather than appreciating seeing another show Sunday.
for me, I am at kind of a critical mass of posters. My portfolio book is full, including between pages. I recently had to go through a rush of framing just to get open real estate for my 2016s I acquired.
In all its about 70 posters in reserve, which is quite a lot. Still intend on finishing the basement which will be about 12-14 maybe framed.

At $35 a pop, there's some of your finished basement money.
I really only collect ones for the shows I go to. The hard part is other bands have followed PJ's lead so I buy those too. Between all the time's I've seen PJ and now a number of non-pj posters... I dunno.. I really just stick to shows I go to, but I haven't stop buying them. At least I no longer have to track down missing ones from shows I've been too.
I tend to frame/hang the best looking ones.. so there's alot of posters in the closet.
I realized that getting them all framed to my standards wasn't financially viable. I haven't even framed the ones I already collected, so I stopped buying posters since I see no point if they aren't going to be displayed.

I ran out of wall space. I attended 4 shows in 5 days and didn't want to buy all 4 posters so I didn't get any. I was attending the shows with people that wanted to go to the pre-party instead of wait in the merchline or go in early. I don't regret "missing out" on them at all. The fact that there are *6* posters for 2 shows is ridiculous and makes me want them even less.

1. the artwork. I only get a couple now and then but stopped when in my opinion the artwork got so shitty. 2. no wall space right now. once we add another floor to house may go back and get some I want. but no need to have tubes stored when I have no idea when construction will start etc. 3. dollar to peso ratio is killing us. now at almost double from couple years back.
i'm with a whack of others and have stopped collecting(almost) the line up for posters/merch isn't any fun anymore. it's beyond insane++ i have 2 poster portfolios packed with rock posters and just woke up one day and realized that they aren't all suitable for framing, especially after seeing 50+ PJ shows and collecting posters to about 1/3 of them. so i sold off a whack of them here at pretty much face and they all sold within a week. smartest thing i did all year. and i took some of that money and bought telluride on ebay for 3 times face value and am HAPPY about it.
Stopped a couple of years ago, unless its something amazing, which is few and far between these days. Money adds up, as does age and priorities. Plus the realization of all this merch crap combined with "fan" behavior over the last 10 years has soured me on the whole experience, even into the music itself.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.
I bought one of this mini posters and I taped it onto my shoulder. Now I have a constant release of poster into my bloodstream and no longer need posters.
I have typically only bought the shows I attend until I saw a couple recently I had to have but I only buy with the intention to frame and hang. My problem is I have a big basement and only PJ posters are allowed on the walls. I have all 26 shows I've seen hung up so that is good and I will make room for more in the future. Hahaha!
I wanted to collect posters for all the shows I attended, plus I had a few that I just really liked the design. I stopped for 3 reasons. 1) I realized I'll probably never own the Pittsburgh '00 (Missing Link) poster 2) I began disliking the artwork for some shows, specifically around the 2013/14 tours. 3) I realized it would be too expensive to frame them all
As of now, I have 4 posters. 3 are framed (State College '03, Baltimore '13, EV Rio '14) and one unframed (Wash DC '08). I will most likely get one at Wrigley because the Cubs and PJ are my two favorite things in life and I will be there this time. Other than that, I think I'm done. It's going to take some really fucking standout artwork for me to buy any more posters to shows I attend after Wrigley.
I stopped every time they have some I don't like. Easy choice. Buy ones I like, don't buy one's I don't like. It works every time, and I don't have stacks of ones I don't like laying around. I love how that works, since I don't feel like I bought a bunch of shit that I didn't need, since I didn't. Too bad they don't teach us this shit in school!

after 06 realized way too many posters being printed. just buy what you like. i am very selective as far as merch these days. i stick to a little vinyl and the odd interesting thing like the turntable cloth for my 77 techniques.
