I don't think most people buying 2 posters are flipping.

Well then, you're leaving in a fantasy world.

Yeah, hopefully it's a 2 per person limit.

That could still possibly be 12 posters if you can get two of each, I don't think they will limit people to only 2 total.
if i'm not mistaken that's what they did with Wrigley a few years ago, 2 posters per person. You could get all 4 posters twice.
Yes, that's what happened at Wrigley.

I always buy a second poster... Got 3 at Eddies Ryman night 1. One for me, one for my brother, and one because my gut told me to.

Met a guy next to me who was a die hard fan going solo, talked for a while. He mentioned the posters and said he got shut out. I pulled out my 3rd and gave it to him. He tried to pay and I refused.

After the show he let me know he had an extra for night 2 at the Ryman because his buddy couldn't make it, said it was mine if I wanted it. Offered to pay but he wouldn't take it. Turns out he got 2nd row and it was one of the best shows ever. I got all his beers that night.

Ever since then I always get one extra poster just in case.

Who the hell wants 6 different posters for 1 show?! Thats ridiculous! It doesn't make any sense other than the fact that they know it will sell and they want a cash grab. It should be about the art and be a momento from the show, who the hell has that much wall space?!
I went to Bonnaroo this year, and I got the poster. And its hanging on my wall above my record player. I can't help but smile when I look at it, remembering that awesome weekend. But there is no way in hell 6 different posters from Boston are gonna do anything except remind me about how ridiculous this merch thing has become.

Cool. But it also takes a poster away from someone that made the effort to wait in line.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

I tend to agree with much of the sentiment on this thread. When I was younger and didn't have the money or time (due to working), I was always mad that all good merch was gone by the time I could get to the venue. I couldn't pay the big prices on eBay. I got shut out on a poster for every show i went to until global citizen. I got pissed that there was a secondary market, and mad as hell at flippers. Now that my situation is different, I buy 2 posters - not because I'm looking to make flipper cash on eBay, but to be able to trade for shows I've gone to, but were shut out. If you want to be mad at me for that, then I guess you can be mad. Since Chicago 03, I've seen roughly the same group of people at the front of every merch line - ten club members - walking out with multiples of everything. Don't tell me they always needed 4 of everything they got "for friends." And don't even get me started on the people saving spots in the GA line - normally for those same flippers.

The way I look at it, this is the type of shit you have to deal with if youre a merch/poster person. Posters are art. Art has always, when done by the best out there, been a commodity. It's not going to change. If you went to an estate sale in Europe, and found 2 van Gogh's for one tenth of what they're worth, please tell me your not buying both if you have the means...... That's a lie.

Posters alone are $210. If you bought 2 of each, then $420. That doesn't include t shirts, stickers etc..adds up FAST.

There are 6 posters because none of the artists wants to have an edition size that's large enough to satisfy a baseball stadium full of fans. The artists prefer smaller print runs. Easier to sell out and keeps the demand up. The last thing you want as an artist is a stack of posters sitting around that you can't sell and are going for peanuts on the secondary market.

You hit the nail on the head. This is the best possible compromise for the increased demand for posters. This way, fans who only want a memento and don't really care about anything else will be able to get their poster, but the individual posters don't get devalued due to the decreased demand. The artists rely on scarcity to promote their art. If they had only one artist and printed out 6 times as many posters there's a good chance they wouldn't sell out. The artists rely on the secondary market for their name recognition. Even though it seems they could potentially make more money if they just printed more and sold more prints at any individual show, in the long run its better for them to have fewer prints.

Same goes for allowing fans to buy 2 prints. It allows us them to keep one and put one on the secondary market through trades or purchase. If everybody just bought one print and kept it forever, the artists wouldn't be able to stay in business.
