Be careful with Discogs. I only use them as a very last resort. A lot of people who sell on there seem to think their records that look like they were run over by a car on a snowy day, handled by someone who hasn't washed their hands in a decade, and let their kid use it for crayon practice and wear as a bib are "near mint."
Great advice. Thanks my friend. Were you able to get the scratches out of detroit?
If you've got 8k lying around I'll sell you my whole set of PJ vinyl (all but the blue Vs I don't have) Just kidding... Unless you really have the 8k...

I have had a few overrated albums from discogs, but they do have a rating system. I just wouldn't buy from anyone who 1) doesn't have a 100% positive rating, and 2) doesn't have a good detailed description posted for the specific item. Also, you can contact the seller and get more detail from them to check on the real condition. I don't think you should use it as a last resort because it is just too rich a source with really good prices on used vinyl. You will find what you can't find anywhere else on discogs. Just be careful, as you should be for ALL used vinyl purchases. I find that practically everyone overrates the the condition on albums now. VG+ is almost NEVER a proper rating, and yeah, a whole lot of people give VG albums an NM- rating. It's ridiculous. This isn't particular to discogs. When possible, just try for sealed. But when that isn't possible, communicate with the seller.

I actually subscribe to every single online record store that I happen to come across. Then I get email updates when any of them have new items and sales. I'm on the mailing list for at least 20 of them. This lets me stumble upon the good deals, but also just to keep up on what reissues are coming out and on new music being made.
(btw everyone, the Killers are reissuing their older albums, including Hot Fuss and Sam's Town. srcvinyl.com and srcvinyl.ca have a good deal on them and pretty cheap shipping)
All I see is a Hott Fuss reissue. And hopefully ST wont be a Picture Disc again if it is reissued.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.
Local record shop...Lost Weekend Internet purchases...Bull Moose Free shipping (on orders over $30)AND a frequent buyer program!! They are GREAT
fixed. I do enjoy Spoonful though
I go to Lost Weekend, RPM & Magnolia every now and then, Spoonful is just really close to where I work and Brett is a GREAT guy... he always drops me a text message whenever my orders are ready for pick-up!!
RPM is good. Magnolia is PRICEY, but they can be given their location. Have you checked out the new Used Kids?
And Brett IS awesome. Great guy. Good taste in music too.

As a frequent shopper on discogs I 100% agree. Not to mention that you can always request pictures from the seller! I have had nothing but positive experiences with discogs.
So my wife got me a record player for father's day so my question to you guys is: where's the most inexpensive place to buy vinyl? Thanks!
Mike
You are in Jersey right brother?
Princeton Record Exchange is a great record shop... HUGE used vinyl selection... plus they have everything new... and they seem to always have a bunch of sealed 2000 bootlegs as well in the PJ cd bin
And there is also Vintage Vinyl... I saw ben harper actually play there with his band Fistful of Mercy with Dhanni Harrison & Joseph Arthur... great place but I haven't been there in a while

Oh sorry. They listed Sam's Town as though it was also being reissued, but now that I click on it, it's on back order. Not sure why they listed it at all with the Hot Fuss announcement. And yeah, when they do reissue it, it better not be a picture disc. That was stupid enough the first time around! I won't even consider buying picture discs.

Most new stuff I buy from Amazon.ca. It's the cheapest online seller in Canada, and shipping is free over $25. Sometimes I buy stuff at Ditch Records (local record store) but there prices can often be $5 to $10 more than Amazon so I often find it hard to buy from them (I'll usually pull the trigger if there within $2 or $3 of Amazon, anymore and I'm too cheap).
If I'm looking for rare 90's records. It's all over the place. Local stores, ebay, Discogs, etc...
Used records it's usually local shops too.
There was a while when the dollar was closer to par that I was buying alot of Vinyl from Amazon UK (and sometimes amazon France and Germany). When you order from Amazon in Europe they remove the VAT for foreign customers. The VAT is usually similar to the shipping costs, so it kind of balances out. The shipping for ordering from the US to Canada has gotten absurd, but the shipping costs from Amazon Europe are completely reasonable (and arrive quicker).
Hopefully either the pound falls, or the dollar rises again. I was quite happy importing from Amazon UK.
Its cool to support local places, sure, but a few of the local stores I've been to are way over priced and the guys working there come across as rather arrogant, and its always much harder to deal with exchanges and what not if the record is messed up.
On amazon or NewBury Comics, if the record arrives in non-mint condition, theyll send you replacements, no questions asked. And its cheaper.
The Exchange. I don't know how far reaching they are. They sell new and used. Newbury Comics. Shipping for vinyl is $5.99. RSD was dangerous for me. I was in Boston and just around the corner from their store in the Back Bay. I went home with a decent haul in hand. Best Buy and Target both release special editions. Often you buy the CD and get the vinyl for free with no ship. A coupon is on the inside. And yes, Amazon. We are Prime members, so we do get a bit of vinyl through them. Apologies to the anti-Amazon folks out there.
For new records I use Amazon because of their return policy. New pressings can be hit or miss so it's great to be able to return a bad one. For used I'll hit up local record stores.
I wrote a site that tracks Amazon's prices on records. Their pricing fluctuates so much that you can get really great deals if you're patient.

I forgot about the Exchange. They're pretty solid too and have a good selection.
