Most on the left is whereas the right wants to fight back. It's fear that leads to inaction.
I don't know, judging by the speakers so far at this convention, I would say that it's the right that is really scared of all the boogey men out there in the world that are going to come and take away their freedom.

This convention is ripe with fear.

    I don't follow
Action requires risk. Fighting radical Islam requires risk. You speak as if Rudy is trying to scare people but it is quite the opposite. It is those that prefer inaction who are afraid. It is the fear of risk. But that fear paralyzes you until the big white truck drives through the crowd.

Nonsense. Complete and utter nonsense. Especially coming from someone who has no skin in the game. How many US troops do you know? How many people did you go to high school with who served and put their life on the line?

I would much much prefer worry about the big white truck that is never going to hit me than put more soldiers at risk for an area that serves no benefit to this country

0, which is precisely the point.

I had two good friends that fought though. One marine infantry who served 8 years and is beyond fucked up.

Tonight was thoroughly entertaining. Very solid night 1. It won't convince people on here but if the rest of the convention goes this way it will be considered a home run. The democratic convention will be a massive snooze fest comparatively.

You think that did anything but alienate minorities and pander to the base?

A snooze fest because they'll actually talk about policy and not the boogeyman?

I saw a number of minority speakers so I'm not sure what was so alienating. Second the American people don't think Islamic Radicalism is the boogeyman. If the democratic convention intends to treat as such then Hillary's campaign is going to struggle.

This speaks for itself. I would expect an academic like yourself would want less of a reality tv show atmosphere for a presidential election.

Listen, I don't expect much out of the DNC though I am very excited for the festivities here in Philly, but they're sure as hell not going to be screaming that they're coming to kill you

Your President has troops fighting in Afganistan and Iraq right now. He has been in Afganistan and Iraq longer then the previous administration. The democratic nominee intends to keep it that way. Will she discuss this policy?

In no way personal whatsoever at all.
I would think an academic could explain in one sentence why HRC will be the next POTUS.

You are correct but I have come to the realization that academics don't win elections.

We are not completely getting out of there for the foreseeable future. I don't really consider what we have their a "war", but whatever you want to call it, fine, we have troops there. Probably 10% of what we have once upon a time when we had folks dying daily

Hahaha then you weren't paying attention when the academic beat the POW veteran and then the super rich hedge fund manager!

If you want a war so badly, why don't you get on your government to send troops over and take the lead? Stop talking about what the US should be doing and focus on what your country should be doing

Fair but this 10% has come along with diminishing returns. There is no doubt in my mind that either party will ramp up engagement come January. The only difference is that the Democratic Party wants to remain in denial on this front. Cliffy rightful wants a discussion of policy but he is ignoring the fact that the Democratic convention will bury this as an issue so as to keep the party united until Election Day. Easy to rip on the republicans but they are telegraphing what they are going to do.

They're not going to send troops over there. Our country has no appetite for it. Trump said as much on 60 minutes last night. Fear mongering and empty promises of "safety"

Yes, I'm pretty sure the only minorities at the convention were the speakers. Pan the audience . . . not so much. The Republican Party has proven itself tonight to be a collection of scared white people.

They might want to refrain from taking wide pans of that convention. The place is half empty. Is that normal?

Mark my words there will be an increase and instead of ignoring it like the media did for Obama's latest increase it will be treated as a massive escalation reminiscent of Vietnam.
