My wife and I drove in from NJ and headed right to the box office to get her tickets after parking. She let her 190xxx membership lapse years ago and only rejoined this year so we weren't expecting anything too close. We were just happy to be in the building. Needless to say, we were blown away when she got her tickets and saw they were front row center floor seats directly behind GA. We were smiling ear to ear.
We found our seats and had a blast being so close. It was cool to have the rail to lean on and I was hoping Mike might pass in front of us during Alive like I saw him do from the 200 level the night before. The crowd in our section was extremely energetic and nobody was acting like an idiot. I thought the band and the crowd were on fire. After seeing the two Philly shows and the first MSG show, I wouldn't have minded them mixing it up a little more but I was glad my wife got to hear many of her favorites.
The night went from great to amazing during Porch. We watched Ed make his way off the stage and I assumed he was going to wade into the GA crowd up front like he usually does to finish the song. But he kept walking and ended up making the turn into the walkway that separated GA from the floor seats. People were slapping hands with him as he walked by and me and my wife were leaning forward ready to take our turn. I got confused when he stopped right in front of us and I wasn't sure what was going on. But then Ed proceeded to climb up the rail directly in front of us. We were holding his arms as he climbed onto the rail and then one of the security guys from the band told us to hold his legs as he stepped onto the top of the rail. Ed belted out the rest of the song standing over us as we braced his legs. I was little concerned he was going to fall at one point. And then he hopped off and headed back to the stage to finish it up. It all happened so fast that it didn't seem real. I never expected him to make his way halfway out across the floor and never in a million years did we expect Ed to end up singing in front of our faces. Amazing. We even got Mike walking right in front of us later during his Alive solo too. Still riding the high from the show and so thankful to the ten club for hooking us up with great seats.

who cares about the repeats? It looked to me like 20k people or whatever were happily singing along to them!? If they were "repeats" to you, consider yourself lucky to be there both nights
I thought the setlists were great and I got to hear pretty much everything I really wanted to hear over the two nights other than Immortality
Breaking news: Guy who heard pretty much everything he wanted thought the setlists were great and everyone should feel lucky to be there. Ha.
It is hard to figure out if the hardcore fanbase is getting increasingly picky about the rarity of setlists or if the band is actually getting more predictable and formulaic with the sets.
Both!

Whoever shot those videos above really rocks! Awesome job!
agreed... good work... anyone happen to get Evenflow on video, or the snippet where Eddie throws the mic to the crowd? trying to track that down... thanks!
i dunno but i was watching on the big screen, was really cool how the guy he threw the mic to wanted to get his neighbors involved and passed it around..
64 songs over 2 nights (not counting the Ishtar song) with 10 repeats. 54 different songs. Quit yer bitching and respect the band for bringing it with some serious energy.
thanks for the perspective....10 repeats is not a big deal

They should play the same set (w/ a couple changes every other night) like 95% of the bands that tour regularly.
I'll bet every member of the band or their crew has, once or twice, said to one another, "That show was fuckin' tight, we killed it tonight! Let's see if the fans heard what we heard from the stage."
Then they just laugh their asses off when they read a standard like, "Quite a few repeats tonight," etc. etc. etc.
It's embarrassing.
Absolutely embarrassing. Humans proves once again they can't really appreciate the good stuff and only focus on the weak stuff, according to their own interpretations and experiences... Big deal, we got technical outtage during porch, oh well, that'll be something to laugh about, not bitching the band of their crew...
Last night was my 10th show, 4th of this tour. I thought msg 1 night had a more raw power set. MSG 2 was about a more versatile setlist, exploring many color of their catalog, not counting the guests appearances. I'm the kind of persone who try to find the best in everything, and msg 2 has a lot!!!! Mike made me cry in All or None!
Everyone who got in MSG for either show show be grateful. We all the post I read from top until here, I'd like to quote Ed during the 2003 MSG Live at the Garden "Pessimist. Fuck the pessimist! Fuck'em!"

Best thing I heard leaving last night: "I had no idea who any of the people that played with them were. They were kinda boring"
I'm sure some of the younger people wouldn't have a clue who they are. My 13 year old daughter would have known Surrender because she hears it on my itunes, Sting....not so much. I think a lot of younger people had no idea when they pulled out Takin' it to the streets also.

I loved this show. I cant get surrender out of my head. That was so good. Whatever songs they are playing, they are on fire. The PA had problems because that band fucking smoked the stacks! Say what you will about the sound, to me it sounded a lot better than the old garden. I really liked the mix of songs. Great time. Wish I was going to more shows.

Tonight the crowd was better than night 1 but everything else was not. The night suffered from multiple sound problems and a repeat setlist that was a little meh. It was ok, not amazing. A little disappointed for NYC, they deserved better.
Agreed. Crowd was louder and more energetic.
I don't know... I couldn't get tickets to Night 1, but this Night 2 crowd seemed quite tame from an MSG standpoint. I live here in NYC and go to most MSG shows, and I've seen way more berserk crowds at PJ shows here. I only got Ticketmaster seats, side stage/middle tier, and I was told several times by the people behind me to sit down. The people to my left said, "wow you're really into this!" I said, "yea... I'm a FAN".
I know everyone deserves a chance to see the show, but being told to calm my enthusiasm at a Pearl Jam show in my hometown is just sickening. I can't see how anyone would think this was an energetic crowd, by Tenclub standards.

awesome experience, can't wait till my daughter is older and to take her (though i always feel if she truly relates to Daughter, i did something wrong
when/where did Sting play with them before?
shetellsherself - I loved the review about taking your daughter to the show - by far the best thing I read in this thread. My oldest is only 8 right now (and have two more younger ones) but it will be a special day when my wife and I get to take any of them to their first show. Couple more years - maybe next Garden run. abulr - re Sting, he appeared at Global Citizen Festival as a guest before PJ came on (but he didn't play with them).
Oh yeah, amazing, amazing show last night. I really think MSG1 and MSG2 are almost a draw - I'm split right down the middle. So many great moments from both shows and yes, there were repeats but I challenge anyone to convince me that hearing the crowd soar during Jeremy or GTF will ever get old. Last night was my 30th show and it sure as shit didn't feel any less special than the first 10 (Jeremy) or 20 (GTF) times I've seen those songs! I don't care about comparisons either (and regrettably missed Philly 2), but absent Oceans, all of Ten was played across these 2 MSG nights. Not the same thing, I get it, but also not too bad...! Love this band. Never gets old. See you at Fenway!

Sting played during GCF but not with pj.
Yes it was an unforgettable experience. Poor kid is at school today. She just texted me that last night was the best night of her life. Reminds me of when I was just a couple of years older than her when I saw pj for the first time in 1992. This band is simply amazing to be affecting generations this way at this point. I hope they understand that and think they do.

No complaints just compliments. These guys work their asses off night in and night out, for money or for their fan base? We were fortunate enough to run into a few band members after the show hanging with their families. It was obvious that they left everything they had out on the stage, both nights, especially Ed and Matt. Yeah the sound could be better, yeah Ed missed a few lyrics and sounded a bit horse, but WTF do you expect? 4 shows in 5 nights can take it's toll! Im not one to compare shows or rate setlists each are very different for their own reasons. I'm thankful these guys are still around and still playing / making music. All hail the lucky ones.

ha, yes - i was there... kinda forgot Sting was there to be honest
as per your comment about generations i absolutely think they do... it's whats great about having so many different ages of fans who get into them through different eras and each have their own favorite album (though i have yet to hear anyone claim Binaural - haha)
i also think that's part of his/their frustrations/anger with the sound last night they know there are first timers and new people, and it doesn't make the best first impression i also have a buddy who's in his 40s, and it was his first show, after years of me and his brother telling him how good they are, and he thought there were quite a few sound issues, and left unimpressed

I was thinking the same thing last night. Ed and the band leave it all onstage. It is amazing that they are still doing it so well.

Can't believe people are complaining about a show that included Breath, Leash, Garden, and All or None in terms of rarities ... 2 great special guest covers ... and over 30 songs in total.
People need to stop thinking their show is going to be "special" because of where it is ... sure MSG is a famous venue but it doesn't give the concert goer a right to say their show deserves to be better than Location X's show. PJ has a history of pulling out some of their most memorable performances in the most random of locations (Katowice, State College, Grand Rapids, Newcastle, Moline, yadda yadda) ... and hyping up your own show before you get there will only set you up for disappointment.
I'm going to both Fenway and Wrigley shows this year ... and if i get the same set as any of the rest this tour so far i'll be perfectly happy.
if youre seeing a lot of pj and youre disappointed by the repeats of the core 30-40 songs they are playing heavily this tour, try this that i find myself doing.. think to yourself what you would be doing at home alone if you heard one of these songs.. youd probably be singing it and dancing around, you might not even notice youre doing it.. then realize that its them actually playing it live right in front of your face.. it works pretty well

I meet some great people at these shows. But there's an element to this fan base I just don't get.

All hail the lucky ones.
as per your comment about generations
i absolutely think they do... it's whats great about having so many different ages of fans who get into them through different eras and each have their own favorite album (though i have yet to hear anyone claim Binaural - haha)
i also think that's part of his/their frustrations/anger with the sound last night
they know there are first timers and new people, and it doesn't make the best first impression
i also have a buddy who's in his 40s, and it was his first show, after years of me and his brother telling him how good they are, and he thought there were quite a few sound issues, and left unimpressed
Is the fortune that you need
