It's on Wikipedia? It must be true then.

the band members must have been telling porkies when they confirmed in recent interviews that no work had taken place yet other than each had come up with their own ideas but nothing that could be construed as actual songs. That doesn't sound like a good basis for a fall record.....

Why would a 6 year old song that was revealed in 2010 be on a new album?

I thought Of The Earth was from ST, and I think Better Man was written, sort of, when ed was 15, which was?, and ended up in 94 Vitalogy, so we just don't know until the next album is released, whenever that happens...

But they already performed it on stage (which is the main point). It is a set list rarity already. That makes it way too late to put on an album I think. PJ'S never done anything like that before, so I don't see why they would for this song (which isn't even all that great).

I think the only known thing is what Jeff said a few months back... They were working on it...

and I don't believe he even said that much. I recall his reply to be pretty tentative like maybe they'll get together and kick some ideas around. No hard and fast plans and they don't need to. They tour and bring people out album or not.

Brain of J was played a few times before it ended on an album. I think the main problem of OTE is the middle section. The transitons live are great and the solo.- do not shorten that damn solo! - is amazing; but they have to work out the transitions.
  • Of The Earth will never be on any proper studio album. Look at Out of My Mind. that never made it. They have several songs that they have played live that are on no studio album.

    Of The Earth

"Last Soldier" was released as a fan-club single. There is no precedent for a fan-club single later appearing on a full-length Pearl Jam studio album, aside from "Lost Dogs," which was a compilation.

"Out Of My Mind" and "Falling Down" were improvs. It's likely that those songs were never fleshed out any further than what we have heard. Regardless, they both had official releases.

"Of The Earth" doesn't really fit with these precedents. It has never been released, and it appears to be a fully fleshed-out song. It wouldn't surprise me if they revisited it for a future album, as happened with "Brain of J."

I don't quite understand the collective hard-on everyone gets for Of The Earth. Good song, but christ get over it already.

probably just because we know it's been recorded and we'd love to hear the studio version.

Falling Down didn't seem like an improv in the traditional sense. it sounded like a full song to me. but I see what you're saying.
