PJ playing a concert had nothing to do with this law so there would be no harm done if Pearl Jam played.

    Wrong on so many levels.

By this argument, nobody would never do anything to stop injustice unless they are directly affected by it, and those targeted groups who are too small a minority to help themselves would be crushed under oppression and ultimately wiped out of existence.

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Well said @FE55353 and @joseph33 I completely share your sentiment.

I literally have no idea how this decision could make anyone cancel their memberships or ask for refunds for other shows.

This band has been political since the very beginning.

In 1994-1995, when they did the "sponsored by no one" tour...they made the fans jump through hoops because they tried to not use ticketmaster venues. A lot of fans reacted in the EXACT same way as people are now. And THAT boycott was brutal for an entire tour. And more.

Now we have a situation where peoples lives are being affected by these laws....and they make a controversial decision to do this.

So...i get it....it sucks....they made a stand....it could have been sooner but its not about you. Its about the people who have to live their lives under this type of law.

Again....i get it. I would be furious if this happened. Livid. I would be venting, too. I would be pissed (and i am pissed) at the people who made these laws and not the band. Even if PJ messes up every now and then.....really....cutting out your entire history with the band?

    I dont get it.

Do you know the law that was passed? How it was passed and why? I'm a NC resident, and I'm aware the law will be repealed during the next mini session of the legislation in 6 weeks/I believe that's when it is. Just wondering if others outside NC really know? Apparently PJ didn't know the amount of pressure the government is under already for the deception they caused with this pill passage. (every heavy hitting educational system/UNC and Duke to name a few, corporation, political group/legislation, Labor groups, textile group, technology group has voiced their displeasure and want to over turn this law. It'll happen in 6 weeks).

The 2nd person in this thread is cancelling their 10c membership. I find that crazy.

They must not have a low 10C number.

I feel Bruce said it really well at the end of his statement.

I think Brandi Carlile and Jimmy Buffet said it far, far better.

-- From Brandi Carlile's Facebook page:

"...I'm a small artist, and I'm gay, many of my fans are gay as well.
To cancel my shows in NC would further oppress my fans who are hurt by this legislation, who worked hard to suppress it, and who need a place where they can come together. That's why we intend to be in Wilkesboro, Charlotte, Asheville, and Greensboro this summer. We're going to come together, let our voices be heard, not stand down, and make a joyful noise in the face of this insult of a law..."

    -- And from Jimmy Buffet:

"These shows were booked and sold out long before the governor signed that stupid law. I am not going to let stupidity or bigotry trump fun for my loyal fans this year. We will be playing in Raleigh and Charlotte next week." -Jimmy Buffet
Interesting takes. Here is an idea: Everyone stuck with flight and hotels just show up to the parking lot of the venue. Turn it into the biggest tailgate \ protest you can. Hell, see if Brandi and Jimmy will join you. The law sucks.......make a difference.

I disagree. First off, Bruce basically plays pop rock. Sure he puts on a great show... But his show is not the definitive "rock" experience by any means. If it weren't for true Rock n' roll, the earth would be a dandelion. We would be in far worse bondage than any shitty law could ever mandate us into. By not playing the show, you are succumbing to the fear and darkness that is put there on purpose by authorities higher up. We'd be less enlightened. When your one job is to play music, you do your job. To me the surrounding circumstances are irrelevant. Music is one of the only things we still have that keeps us connected and afloat. At the same time, what the band did is understandable. They are activists. That is to be respected.

PJ may have over thought this decision.

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall listening to these dudes talk around the breakfast table the last couple of days.
