The occasional fan interaction is great. But I'd hate to see shows devolve into some kind of rocky horror picture show of audience participation.
You hit the nail on the head bud.
I agree with this also. I realize that people have various songs they want to hear for various reasons. I've got quite a few songs that I'm hoping to hear also, but I think we should let the artists be artists. Composing setlists is part of their craft. They throw plenty of completely unexpected surprises at us already. I'm thrilled for people when they hear what they want, but I wish the 'play "In the Moonlight" in Chicago because Jimmy Mac used to moon people' type requests would die down a bit. Ditto for the 'play "Pry To" in Toronto because you've never played it here before' requests.
if I was Ed I probably wouldn't play shit for anybody or I'd rarely take a request. Once you do, everyone wants to make a request. You can't please everybody. With that said, I request the band rarely or never OPENS with Pendulum again!

Yep.
Gotta say, seeing Green Day go overboard with audience participation made the show less than a great show. Audience participation = eh. Let them play what they want, the show is about THEM!!
Or you could just chill. We all know the band will play whatever it wants and it will be great, but the stories and the requests are nice to read and go on the trip with the poster. It hurts no one and doesn't change anything unless the band wants to change it.
Anything you lose from being honest You never really had to begin with.
Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.
The band clearly get something out of it and carefully select the ones they choose. I do think the board gets heavily congested with silly requests though. Someone within the band clearly pays some attention but maybe if the mods made a sticky request thread and took down the constant new threads people would get the message. On the positive side of things you wouldn't see a lot of the rarer songs they play without the requests and many of these are very deserved, humorous or touching. I think there is much more in the world to worry about than something this trivial.

I made a request for black at philly 2, felt like a tool doing it honestly and wouldn't normally do it, but just lost a friend I'd go to pj shows with, funeral is tomorrow. I'm fine if they don't play it, I know I tried in his memory, so that's some peace of mind.

Same with the guys that wrote Tremor Christ on their head in Miami. Pretty funny and pretty original.
I once requested a song for my friend's kid and Ed brought him onstage to sing it with him. How cool is that?
I'll take those over signs any day. Ever seen Bruce live? Those signs are ridiculous.
I've also seen where Ed changed the lyrics in Brooklyn to, "Don't you think it's about time you put your sign down" during All Those Yesterday's.
And the proposal in OKC that got Other Side scratched.
With that said, the 10C could just make a section for requests on the boards.
