That Time When Sad Should've Been The First Single Off Binaural...

...but it wasn't. Yeah, that was a swing and a miss.

If Brendan was the producer of that album. I believe it would definitely be on the album. And a few other changes. It definitely wouldn't be named Binaural though. As I don't think they would have tried that technique

following up a single about a deceased love with a new single about a deceased love? that would have been a bold strategy, cotton. wish i could have seen how it would pay off for them.

putting sad after last kiss on a mixtape makes a lot of sense, though.

Probably would not have gone over as well as a string of songs about incest, the homeless, and a suicide, but it still might've done pretty good because Sad kicks ass as song.

Tell me which song on that album is more listenable to a wider audience, yet still shows off the band's essence and energy.

Letter To The Dead should have been the first single.

I thought NAIS as the first single was an absolutely terrible choice. my vote would have been for light years or grievance.

I also think had Brendan been the producer that version would have made the cut. I love both though

I thought that should have been the first or second single after NAIS and not the B side.

Never been a huge fan of Sad. It's an okay song to me. I don't think it was a mistake to not put it in the album.

Never sounded like a single to me. I'm actually fine with NAIS.

Who cares what "album" songs there are. They are a live band anyway. Besides if they cared about which singles to release they never would have released who you are as the first single from no code.

I was messing with you on my post wasn't being serious, but I agree with others that Grievance would have been a good first single.... I have no issues with Sad just not as a first single

I was just actually thinking the same thing. Recently I ranked all the albums and came up with the first five (ten --> yield) ranking higher than the last five. But the live shows are longer and better than ever IMO.

True. However what percentage of songs played at a show are from the first five albums? Pj tends to skip over albums 6, 7 and 8 and album 9 gets played less and less.
The song selection this tour should be really interesting since they aren't supporting lb anymore.

True, they are played less but at least they are still in the rotation somewhat. SOngs that come to mind- Unthought Known, Got Some, Life Wasted, Severed Hand, I Am Mine, Come Back, Save You, Light Years)

Down should've been the first single from Riot Act
  • PJ_SoulPJ_Soul Posts: 49,898
"NAIS" is one of my favorite PJ songs and I loved it as the first single. While I think "Sad" is a great song, I don't wish it had been on Binaural. I think it's got a very nice home on Lost Dogs. It would have been fine on Binaural, but I don't think that Binaural is lacking in any way. Same goes for "Down" and Riot Act.
