given the list of candidates who else would we vote for ? sanders seems o.k but really who else ? the real joke is on the American people the white house gives us Hillary ? and after that Rubio...or Cruz ...shit I rather see Trump in office than Hillary, Cruz or Rubio ....also it seems the only complaining about trump consists of child like babble with no real proof of anything...but then again that's the way most of us complain about politician's.

Godfather.
I think you are confusing the complaints against Trump with his policy claims.
The complaints against him have been backed up with serious analyses and with the quotation of his own words. He gives some child like babble with no real proof about building a wall and making Mexico pay for it, we give analysis that shows his claim to be impossible and the president of Mexico says they won't be paying for any wall.

really......did anybody really think the drug lords of Mexico would build a wall to keep themselves in ? I just had a talk with my union agent and my only real interest in trump is that he is turning politics as usual on its ear and waking people up but as far as a good president ? who knows ? if he gets it we'll see.

Trump's supporters buy it hook, line, and sinker!
American's have been lied to for so long and Given shit for their efforts, they just want something to believe in and along comes Trump with the fuck the system attitude now people are thinking that they found someone to hear their concerns, it's a scary thought putting in a president with no political back ground(just like Obama) but then again the few who do have political back ground have abused their positions and power making them untrustworthy.
Sad that (on both sides) only an small minority apparently consider this type of condescension as ugly as the ignorance it claims to be struggling against.

Can't help but feel this proves my point.
I saw in another thread it was questioned why someone would post a (possibly) pro-Trump/Republican thread in this forum, with the claim that the person was baiting the liberals on here, yet this thread serves the exact same function (intended or not), from the other side of the aisle. No wonder rational discourse is dead on both sides, if such double standards are to be tolerated and accepted.

I honestly want to know how we can have rational discourse about an irrational, self inflated, egomaniac, misogynistic man who is unqualified to the extreme who is running for one of the most important jobs on the planet. Seriously, how do you do that?

Yes, on the planet. Should it be one of the most important jobs on the planet? Not necessarily, but it certainly is at least perceived as so.
Yes, he is very self inflated.
No, he won't win. But maybe with a little luck he'll move to Canada!

For me, it would start by not ridiculing any given candidate's supporters. I've said many times crap on the public figures all you want, but never crap on an individual for their beliefs.
Unfortunately, it seems that all sides are so deeply entrenched in their beliefs (read: opinions, lol) that as I said, rational discourse is virtually impossible.
As an example, my sister has developed into some sort of uber-environmentalist, and she gives unqualified support to the current trend of wind turbines. When a recent documentary aired that was critical of this province's government's handling of this technology, the man who was upset because his livestock had to be sold as a result of nosebleeds seemingly caused by the nearby installation of a wind turbine, my sister characterized him as a crazy guy yelling at the government for forcing these turbines on them, without considering that maybe some research was required.
And to be fair, I acknowledge I have my own blind spots, but it's the tone of the "discussion" that I'm addressing here. Seems both sides are making many assumptions, and we all know what that does (makes an ass out of u and me, for those that don't know, lol).

Maybe the trump supporters punched the cows in the nose to cause this.
I do think we can have a rational discourse about why people are supporting Trump. Just calling them dumb, racist, accusing them of hating women...that isn't a rational discourse.
Hey guys, when you run out of debating points may I suggest this fun drinking game i just heard about……Every time Bernie Sanders mentions a FREE government program, CHUG somebody ELSE's Beer.. Yippeeee

I read somewhere that if Bernie has a dollar and you have ten he has eleven.
how can you debate anybody who does not acknowledge and agree with these trivial little things that we call "facts"?
your average trump voter's reply to a posted fact is "yeah, but....insert generic "but he is not a politician he speaks his mind" excuse here...
He does speak his mind - fact. All the people (most) on this train are against media brainwashing agendas, control etc Yet here we have a person who does not follow the guise the media wants you to believe and instead of bewilderment you get disgust.

who should feel bewilderment? who should feel disgust?
the media has gone to sleep on trump. they let him walk all over the media instead of calling him what he is. they have given him hundreds of millions of dollars worth for free advertising. they have made him what he is. a responsible media would have deliberately minimized his candidacy instead of inflating it.

I agree that we would do well to be civil with each other even when we feel very strongly about an issue, a candidate, etc.
I also agree that it's a good idea to keep an open mind. I tend to be more understanding and empathetic with "uber-environmentalists" because they are quite often the kind of people who are desperately trying to help keep our planet livable for humans and other large animal forms alike. When someone's land base, air and water are critically endangered, it makes sense that they become strongly opinionated and even fanatical. But, nevertheless, not all environmental ideas are sound. Massive solar panel arrays, for example, may be causing irreversible damage to fragile desert ecosystems.
As for the tone- it's very difficult for many people to remain calm when seeing Donald Trump receive so much support. The fact is (see gimmesometruth's post on facts above) Trump is not qualified for the job. He's seriously overqualified. (I've never worked on guitar electronics. Would you hire me to rewire your mint 1959 Les Paul Jr?) That alone should raise concern among Trump supporters but we don't see any of his supporters acknowledging that fact and it becomes very difficult to not react strongly to that.

today's news is reporting that for the first time in years the house is actually in play in 2016. this is a worst nightmare scenario for republicans. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/the-fight-congressional-control-takes-unexpected-turn
there have been some court rulings on gerrymandering districts the last 6 weeks which have made some of that unconstitutional.
