It does seem that more and more fanatics are getting into politics rather than moderates. It's pretty terrifying.

You have to be nuts or to want to be POTUS these days.

I was waiting for the people to complain about it being a white man. Honestly I thought there was no chance in hell.

Don't know much about this guy, but again, nothing pops out saying he should be disqualified and the president is fullfilling his constitutional duties...time for congress to do the same.

    This is infuriating

“Rather than put Judge Garland through more unnecessary political routines orchestrated by the White House, the leader decided it would be more considerate of the nominee’s time to speak with him today by phone,” Mr. McConnell’s spokesman, Don Stewart, said in a statement.

“The leader reiterated his position that the American people will have a voice in this vacancy and that the Senate will appropriately revisit the matter when it considers the qualifications of the person the next president nominates. And since the Senate will not be acting on this nomination, he would not be holding a perfunctory meeting, but he wished Judge Garland well.”

You practically have to be nuts just to run for city council at this point. The people we WANT and NEED running the country are completely off-put by the creeps who ARE running the country - the ones who have made corruption and dirty tactics completely systemic. It's terrible. I think it is literally going to be the ultimate downfall of our civilization TBH.

They are no longer interested in governing and enough of their constituents are OK with that so there are no repercussions. This is shaping up to be one more shameful episode on Capitol Hill.

The fact that Obama skipped Scalia's funeral, I don't see how just calling a nominee is a big deal.

The guy is just a nominee, not a justice. What is the big deal if Mitch just calls him?

The phone call isn't the issue. The refusal to meet with the man, to give him a hearing and a vote, that is the issue.

    This!

The Senate is literally refusing to perform its duties simply to spite the current President of the United States. To me that shows a terrifying disregard for democracy and the constitution.

Agreed. I'm surprised it's even legal.

Ridiculous not to move the process forward to approve or disapprove. The Republicans are acting like a bunch of spoiled children who aren't getting their way.

The party of strict constructionism is engaged in unconstitutional behavior because it suits their political hopes and dreams.

I think once it becomes clear that Trump will get smoked in the general, they'll move forward and approve him. As someone has stated already, this guy is likely more centrist than anyone Hillary will put forth. Also, the pick itself was smart because it maximizes the mileage dems will get out of the republican tactics.

But this is all the typical Washington machine in action, lest anyone believe either party is above this nonsense.

The GOP is a collective horses ass. I can't wait for them to get stomped in November.

Hillary is going to stomp Trump into dust.

the only thing sadder about the typical GOP response is that their voters don't seem to care either ...

^^^^This. I think the part that really bugs me is that the American people continue to elect representatives that obstruct in the name of party politics. Being from KY, I am always astounded by how many people detest McConnell but then turn around and vote for him.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

It wouldn't surprise me. He is playing this election like a reality TV game. The ones that win Survivor usually do whatever it take to win.

Or he could actually be insane via the size of his ego.

The Trump is a Democrat conspiracy kind of dismisses the birther bullshit and Romney endorsement in 2012.

I know how this John le Carré shit works! Goes from being a registered Democrat to making birther claims. It's the perfect cover.

    HE'S AN INSIDE MOLE!!!
  • he isn't who i would have chosen, but he deserves a hearing and the chance to go through the process.

this was a brilliant move by obama. he picked a man gop senators have always praised and respected, and hatch even recommended him for the post last year. funny how things change when the black guy gets to pick someone for the bench.
