Romney 2016!!!

gimmesometruth27gimmesometruth27 St. Fuckin Louis Posts: 22,152
i'm hearing rampant speculation that romney is going to jump into the race tomorrow and save the party and the country, and the world at the same time.

romney is how you win, and he is gonna win. he is gonna make the country greater than drumpf will make it. and he is gonna build a BIGGER WALL and it is going to be the most beautiful wall you've ever seen. plus he is going to make corporations 1 and 3/5s of a person, so you know that they are people.

i also heard this morning that ventura is going to jump into the race as a 3rd party candidate if hillary gets the dem nod.

whooptie doo i'm gonna hose my shorts from this excitement!!!!

romney '16!! because getting your ass kicked in 2012 hurts less when you get it kicked worse in 2016!!

    Why would you support Romney?
For one, I believe he is opposed to gay marriage.

Not to worry, Hedo. Whatever it is, it's nation wide.

    Now back to the topic...

Re. Romney and upcoming address: The Washington Post give this quote: "This is not an endorsement or announcement of candidacy," a person close to Romney said regarding his Thursday remarks."

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/03/02/mitt-romney-to-address-the-2016-presidential-campaign-thursday/

So if it's neither of those, what wondrous revelations will Mr. Mitt bestow upon us?

Mitt Romney who lost every single swing state in 2012 is going to parachute in and save 2016? Only if Hillary gets indicted is there a chance he would win.

It's cute that people think that Romney and Trump are successful on their own merits

I mean, if we are looking at where people started their life, Hillary has been wildly more successful than either of them.

Yep. Just a little bit of a head start for both of them.

It still blows my mind that I graduated from the same high school as Hilary. Not a fan of hers, but that's still pretty cool.

drumpf called romney a weak man who blew an election he easily should have won.

romney and the gop establishment is going to evicerate drumpf today.

trump will not get the nomination. they will sabotage him at the convention.

i don't think it is fair to trump or his supporters since he has gained a majority of the votes. if the dems did that i would be super irate.

at any rate, the trump train is going to get derailed today. and i am going to sit back and laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

    debate tonight should be fun.

Speaking strictly from a strategy point of view.....Divide and conquer may be the last ditch effort by the GOP to derail Trump if that is what they are seeking to do with old Mitt. While hardly a good strategy, at this point the best that could be hoped for is fractured convention.

They are already divided. Hasn't helped them conquer.

Romney is just another Establishment figure that this iteration of the GOP base has no use for. Not sure how he is any better than Rubio or Bush.

When Donald Trump was just peddling his disgusting birther views Mitt Romney couldn't accept his endorsement fast enough. Never forget that.

Well "better" isn't really the issue, haha. I'm just saying that their goal at this point may be to just ensure that Trump has less than 50% of the delegates come the convention. Tossing in a guy that can grab 4-5% of the vote, most likely at the leader's expense, could literally be all they're after. I can't imagine there would be any illusion that Romney would show up and suddenly be the savior.

Romney is clearly trying to save his party, and I don't blame him. The party is a joke, and Trump really highlights what is wrong. The one good thing about Trump is that he has caused such a fracture in the ranks that the GOP will have to really figure out how to unite and pull it all back together. Maybe it isn't even possible.

Do people here think Romney is going to run? I don't really think that was his intent today. The intent was to get Republicans to think about issues and quit voting for Trump. The intent was to try to keep Trump from getting a majority of delegates. If he can do that, then the party can broker a nominee, and force Trump to run as in independent if that is what he wants to do.

And it is hard to disagree with his assessment of Trump:
"Here's what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He's playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat. …
His domestic policies would lead to recession. His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe. He has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president."

Too little too late. There is no going back at this point. The GOP created this mass group of voters that are no longer willing to listen to the party itself.

Trumpenstein will lead them down the shitter and it will be hilarious to watch.

Oh, it's hilarious to watch for sure. But I'm not certain that Trump has an easy path to a clear majority of delegates, especially if the establishment GOP is turning up the heat in opposition to their own party's front runner. That's what is so interesting about this. The DNC use super delegates to counter the voters in its party. The RNC run negative ops against their own leading candidate to counter the voters in its party. It's wild and wacky!
