I can see how easily that scenario can come out in an instant. My freshman year I can remember a massive cafeteria food fight got started at my table over a game we were playing called killer. However, that was in fun but in today's culture of quick tempers that kind of shootout could come about without much aggitation.

Shootings already happen on college campuses. They're usually one sided, though.

There is a reason that 92% of mass shootings occur in "Gun Free Zones". Maybe now the schools in Texas won't be as soft and vulnerable.

Do you think it is reasonable for professors to possibly censor themselves for fear of a student who is packing?

No. Not just anyone can get a carry permit. Those who have them are among the most law abiding citizens in this country.

No felons, no persons under 21, no illegal immigrants, no people with restraining orders against them, no one that was dishonorably discharged from the military, no one adjudicated as having a mental illness. ......

I think the fears of the teachers are largely unwarranted.

Really what happens when the 1st teachers is shot dead by a law abiding student who just losses his mind over a bad grade or failing grade , so your ok with your own kid in a class with other students carrying ...

There are plenty of law abiding citizens who aren't felons right up until the first time they shoot someone. All of those things are great in theory, but how well have our gun laws worked so far?

More fear in America. There will always be the fearful. Who needs that. The rest of us are moving on. We don't need to carry guns all the time because we refuse to be cowered by the fear.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

  • Here's a question. If one of these professors who is armed, is able and does neutralize an active shooter, is this a good idea then??

What if the professor is the active shooter?

And I'm guessing you voted for the ticket with Sarah Palin on it

    What a joke

key word in your scenario is "IF".

it has never happened before. and by the time said professor skins his piece people will have already been shot. these "good guys with guns" don't walk around with their guns in their hands. they are in a holster. they draw their gun in response to a threat. people sitting in a classroom are not threats until they get up and draw their weapon.

I have no issue with gun ownership... I know some very good people who are private gun owners... especially if they hunt... it's part of their culture...

It's all different now though... a bunch of white suburban "survivalists" that have never hunted in their life are now stockpiling guns and buying AR-15's because they think it's cool, or they think the black helicopters are coming, or they think it gives them a bigger dick

I have a dipshit 25 year old cousin, lives in the burbs, has never hunted in his life, has zero experience with guns growing up, and he is now a proud owner if an AR-15... there is zero fucking reason for him to own that gun... he did it because he watches fox news every day and thinks this shit makes him cool... that's happening all over the country, people that have no business being gun owners stockpiling weapons for no good reason

Like I said, Americans have turned into pussies

I've had to do that. That's why I feel the way I do about self preservation and self defense. You can't always rely on someone else to stop the person that's trying to kill you.

So if one person screws up is this law deemed a failure?

I would argue if they start changing their curriculum out of fear, yes it is a failure

Why would they change their curriculum? Is there proof of this? And how would changing curriculum be reflective of a gun law?
I think changing curriculum is pretty common based on your audience. I ve been teaching for 15+ years and change what I teach based on what my students have been through. (Depending on what I ve been made aware of)
