Ah, see!! Then you and I, my friend, do not fall into this whole other category. There is a very real difference.
That's what I'm talkin about!!
Although can I clarify by saying that the people I do know who are prepared to camp out overnight are not people who would seek personal access to the band members or have "other intentions".
i'm with the "obsessed and slightly nuts" crowd. i talked to one guy in line yesterday at 4 pm, on my way to the beer garden at sheffield's, and he said he had a friend who would give him a ticket. some of these people might be those who begged to wait for hours to get an extra. i hope for his sake his "friend" shows up and comes through. i told him i'd see him tomorrow!
i'm going around 3, picking up my ticket, checking out the line, and drinking some more beer. this is truly nuts. i've been to the vic a bunch of times and there is not a bad seat in the house!
the ones that have been there since yesterday morning will be outside lolla all of saturday night and on the barrier all day sunday as well.
That was the talk when they were still here in Europe!

ah! maybe i've missed something here... is it an all-seated venue ? so those who get the first tickets theoretically get those on the front row... etc etc ?
if so then i can kind of understand things... or maybe i can't it's a small venue so i think i'd be in the have a few beers, collect the ticket, chill a bit more...
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

that's what's even weirder about it. the floor is GA. so theoretically you could be right up front, but would probably have to scrap for it. the balcony is seated and holds a ton of people. i normally hate stereotyping and there were a couple of cool people yesterday but most of them kinda scare me. i love the usual fun happy cool pj crowd, these are silent types with a strange feverish focus in their eyes, which if i was ed, i wouldn't want to see when i'm singing 'black'.
i plan to have some beers, save my energy and have an awesome time tonight, regardless of where i'm standing...
Standing on the floor, seated on the balcony... 'not a bad seat in the house' is just an expression
see...? told you i'd missed something...
*easily confused, even if VV's not around*
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?
are they allocated tickets? meaning you might be lining up for 24 hours, but you have a crap 10c tickets and are seated in the back row (which still would not be a bad seat) or is it first in best dressed?
Although can I clarify by saying that the people I do know who are prepared to camp out overnight are not people who would seek personal access to the band members or have "other intentions".
Agreed. Buuuuuuuutttttttt... I think there are some other generalities that could be applied to the majority of that lot.
be a bummer if you queue 36 hours and the tickets are allocated based on yer 10c number...!

I'm still at workin' just dyin' inside, literally and figuratively! I so want to be at the show!!!!!!!!!!!! As I'm sure of others are wishing the same. Gonna stop by around 8ish to check things out and grab a beer ... hopin to hear the vibration of pj at some point in the evening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as soon as i saw the note that someone was taking names, i knew sandra was up front!
The list was started before I got there
and Jeff, remind me where you were most shows? on the rail too.. and you queued for that all day too.. after all, there was 700+ people to go in the Vic probably; last year, there was only 300 10c tickets for each shows.. less reason to queue you'd think...
first time i actually overnight (actually ended up sleeping in a bed for 2 hours as they kicked us out of the street, some stayed in cars, the others took turns at the hotel..so basically as much sleep as when getting to queue at 6am, like in Europe), but the unknown quantity of US pit behaviour and queuing fervour (having heard of people going straight from out of the show in line in SF last year) meant not taking chances ..plus it was fun ..though wouldn't do it every time for sure.
It's FUN queuing with friends. tiring yes, but fun...
and frankly, if I didn't care about being on the rail, I'd end up drinking all day, like in Verona, and be less fit to enjoy the show.. once the music starts, the fatigue goes, the drunkenness wouldn't.
Im sure eddie and the boys are scared of some of these people. They pop up at every show, standing there with the same smile, and affection for the band. On top of that they are waiting hours for the band to exit the venue. Its crazy! Its an obsession and it can be hard for the band to know how to deal with people like that. Im sure most people are easy to deal with, but there are always exeptions.
no-one (mm ok, there's 1 possible exception already mentioned) I know stays for the band afterwards... we head for the pub or the bed or the next venue... I've never met anyone from the band, don't care if I don't (ok, would be nice bumping into Mike someday, but I'm sure not going to go look for him.).
Last year in Torino, the ETB happened to be parked at the back entrance, Ed came out to sign/talk to people after the show ..no-one I can recall from our crowd even crossed the street to go there.
you talk about photo/autographs hunters outside hotels...completely different thing
During the shows, we rock our asses off and the band sure seem to appreciate that.
that's why we queue, for the best spot (to us, some people prefer to be further back, to each their own) at the SHOW. a
nd the friendships you have time to develop with people you spend hours with is also really nice and a big part of why we travel. I would never have bothered going to Chicago if it wasn't for the friends I knew were there, I missed them more than I missed seeing the band perform.
and bless you Hinn for sticking up for us , we missed you and your enthusiasm in that line up! thought about you and the others a lot, can't wait 'till we can have a full blown reunion , whether at a show or when you come in your travels.
I'm always up for defending my mates, especially when you guys are away, too busy having fun with one another, especially when you guys get accused of this kind of crap when I know it can't be further from the truth.
Please, if you're gonna accuse her of something bad, just say she's always asking for more, cos she does, especially when bus drivers drive slowly along German and Polish highways and when 10c queue lists get messed up

Amen to that!
Let's sort out that meet up soon - I want to hear about the US shows!

And to that I spose I can now add MMJ playing the same setlist over and over when she's in the crowd, though I haven't actually been around her for these occasions :(
Young Jeffrey - I am with you on the notable exception (which I believe falls into the "acting obsessively" I mentioned earlier!!)
As for the reasoning behind the 36 hour queuing - well sanity does not seem to ever prevail which leaves two possibilities (1) people actually like to queue (and have withdrawals if they don't)!! or (2) people are mad!
I'm not sure where I sit between those possibilities but I just like to get a decent spot and socialise with other queuers- any competition to be first in the door I'll leave to others because it is (as you have inferred) completely pointless!!
I'm trying to figure out who you're talking about cos I can think of a FEW notable exceptions
I met a LOT of really cool people in the queue for the vic... I'm a sucker for American men anyway and they were pretty laid back and fun. I could tell at the beginning (and probably at the end too) they hadn't a clue what to make of us Europeans. I don't know how some people manage to queue overnight and all day without once making friendly conversation with anyone though . I'm just there for the craic. If there's none, I won't stay... the queue for lolla was different. I checked it out after the pub and it was pissing rain and just miserable so I wasn't gonna stick it out in that. Went back to the hotel, had a great night sleep. Made my way towards the front around 4.30pm. Got 2nd row... then for the last few songs I made the barrier anyway... so saved meself 12 hours

That was during Jim James on the kiddie stage which was one of my highlights cos it was so 'what the fuck? This is hilarious'. He was singing the Chipmunks and Kermit the frog and shit like that. I had to tell Sandra to shut up

yeah, don't start me on MMJ though... i managed to sleep through half their set , both boring and deafening, how do they manage that?
the Kids stage was funny though..got the giggles and could not stop..:D..bit like Pistoia when we started taking the piss (out of MMJ, once again)
