I don't care either way, but since it's about the band's support (or lack) for candidates, it could be argued that it makes sense on this forum.

    I only see two possibilities:

    1. Nobody. In all the 2013 and 2014 boots I have (not to mention attending Wrigley and St. Paul, 2014), I don't think they say a damn word. Angry Ed does not show up like he used to...and they seem to be using their influences to help good causes that basically everyone will support (St. Paul's tour was in part because of the EB research).

    2. Bernie. He's certainly more Ed's speed than Hillary. While I don't think the band really wants to attach their names to a candidate of a major party, maybe the clown car of GOP hopefuls will get them to open their mouths a bit more. The GOP candidate, barring a surprise Kasich or Bush run, is either going to be Trump or someone that appeals to evangelicals. I think they changed their tune from Nader 2000 to "Vote for Change" 2004...I doubt it was about Kerry (who's name they never mentioned to my recollection) but more about Bush. This could be about Trump, Cruz, or Rubio.

If Hillary wins the nomination, that will be interesting. Do they cringe and support her because of Trump/Cruz/Rubio? I could see them stumping for Bernie vs GOP but less likely for Clinton.

Gun to my head, I'd say they don't support anyone under any circumstances...they have not exactly influenced any elections in the past and I have a sense that they are burned out on being lighting rods in general and with their own fanbase (except maybe Jeff).

Hopefully no candidate at all. I would rather they keep their social voice but not outright support any of these crooks.

I'm still waiting for a candidate to emerge that doesn't make me cringe....on either side of the aisle.
Vermin Supreme would of been a fun candidate. Though Lawrence Lessig would of been the right candidate if he didn't drop out.

CTV News, CBC News & Global News here in Canada broadcast more USA politics then Canadian politics. Just because it's more entertaining. I have never seen it this entertaining & shocking ever! Each day the top story in Canada is what's happening in the USA elections. This USA election has drawn everyone around the globe to tune in, to pretty much listen to whatever Donald Trump has to say. It's pretty sad, though it's the American people who want him. They see something in him. He sure does know how to bring in the $ ratings that's for sure. Highest watched USA elections in the history. USA TV & global networks must thank him for that ...

As for Bernie & Hillary, I kinda feel sad there is no other Democratic candidate running against them cause these two are not where you want to throw your vote away to. You got a man who's turning 75 in September. 75! If he wins he will be the oldest USA President in history. What's an old man doing trying to run the most powerful country on the planet? Have they ever heard of young blood? You must be 35+ year's to be President of the USA, right? Is there no one out there in the USA that is young, full of energy, smart, loved by all that can run the USA? Then you have the other candidate that just lies, lies & lies. I have NO idea how she even made it this far.
So, what, old men are junk now?
75 isn't that old, he's only a few years older than Trump and Clinton.

Bernie's mind is way sharper than Trump or Bush and he is physically healthier than some slob like Christie. I can guarantee you that!!

  • If they have a brain they won't support either one.

Yes, but we know they've backed Dems a long while now. Met with Clinton, Obama support, and the Missoula Tester show. I think with Neil backing Bernie, they might too.
I'd call this more than Obama support (I truly think Eddie's backing of Obama was why they got to play 2 1/4 hours after Chicago concert curfew in 2013, thanks Mayor "former Chief of Staff" Emanuel, wink, wink). http://youtu.be/QxyRzswxVCE

That being said, to the OP's question, who cares? It's your vote, make an educated decision, maybe it's the same as the band, maybe not but they shouldn't sway you.
Never did I say that what they support would sway me. And as for the "who cares?", the band has a definite history of getting involved and backing democratic candidates. This is a presidential election year, so it's very possible we'll hear Ed speak to it on this upcoming tour. Simple as that.

I think if anything Ed might take a few swipes at Trump, but won't back a Dem unless Bernie gets the nod.

BERNIE if they're going to really back up what they've been saying all these years

Yes, that is true. If they still believe what they always preached and what their music says, anyway. We have good reason to think that may not be the case though. Plus most of that might only really apply to Eddie.

For what it's worth, it looks like a bunch of their friends are supporting Bernie. Uncle Neil, Roger Waters, RHCP, Cat Power

    And Flea. Right on, Flea!

Who knows about Ed and PJ. Their endorsement would be nice and would make sense but remember, many people go soft when they get older. Those who don't just get that much tougher and the young keep making the waves big anyway. Thank you Youth Energy!
