Why is it that change so often is mostly supported by the young?

Regarding the "free" education thing that bothers some perhaps consider this: America has become "dumbed down" (only someone incredibly naive or dumb would disagree with this). Helping people become better education and raising the intelligence of a people is a great investment in the future. I don't see how that can be a problem, especially in light of how stupid America has become.

I have always been conservative. Conservation is a great thing!

but how will them taking my money for themselves investing in them benefit MEEEEE in the future??? these damn takers....

people are bothered by free education, really? This lovely country of ours is ranked 28th in the world for the best education and then partner that with crazy cost increases. … But it's not affecting us older folks so let's complain about it.

Man...this fiscal conservative and her husband are fairly comfortable because we've worked hard for it. And still paying off our mortgage. And have kick-ass equity!

    Like I said, perception.

As to education - some of our schools have failed children, but so too (perhaps moreso) their parents and by proxy what is encouraged, given, ignored, sometimes spoiled and misguided.

I grew up in a frugal household and attended one semester of community college. My guy too and with one parent and his own shit. I consider ourselves educated, in pretty awesome ways. Great foundations and learning along the way.

Living within our means, occasionally splurging. A nice, stable life built, continuing to build.

Some change I'm cool with, others not. Has nothing to do with open-mindedness for me.

    Hedo,You so get it .cheers

Gloria Steinham said this on Bill Maher. Men become more conservative as they age due to increasing power; women radicalize and become less complacent as they age due to decreasing power.

    Man i love Carlin.
The college tuition thing always bothers me cuz like cuny for example used to be free until the mid seventies and it was a much better education back then, making there was more opportunities for graduates than there is now.

I read something about this a while ago and I think it was something to do with population demographics. As in there's not only more baby boomers in power making the decisions, but more if of them in general. Also, they're the first generation to be living longer, post retirement. So the funding that used to be adequate to provide for the young has to stretch to cover the costs of the old in cases of social security, Medicare. Etc. So simply that there's more of them, with more needs than their processors, fighting for their piece of the pie even if it's at the expense of their own kids. Which becomes more complicated by the fact that they're used to having their needs addressed (such as in the example of free, meaningful education in the sixties).

I don't like the idea of blaming it all on boomers though. There's enough blame to put on gen x and y for not fighting the things that hurt the social welfare systems as well. So that now the millennial are crying out for a life raft cuz they certainly are drowning.

um actually, the certificates are NOT free anymore. It's $50 per now. You can still get the lessons and stuff for free but you no longer anything stating that you finished/passed/completed the course.
Trust me I'm kicking myself over that one.

it's not a completed education. It's a certificate for a specific course. It's peer reviewed you don't get a grade and it doesn't count toward a degree. It used to be called a Certificate of Course Completion but I don't know if they still call it that.
