Before PJ for me it was David Bowie. Tin Machine were the first alternative band before anyone really knew about Seattle and what would come from there a few years later. He was an innovator throughout his life. His new album broke ground and he was 69 years old. Loved Ed and Ben's cover of under pressure was lucky enough to see a great singers song sung by another live in Sydney a few years back.
Sad start to the year for music.
Im not supersticious, Im just a littlesticious.

My first concert was the 1995 lollapalooza tour when I was 15. The next show I saw was Nine Inch Nails and David Bowe, only watched 5 songs or so of Bowe's set but am glad I got to see that much. Wish my young ass would have appreciated it more and stayed for the entire set but hey.

Yes, a very sad beginning of the year already for music fans. First Lemmy, now David. The music lives on.

Saw Bowie at Milton Keynes around '90. Glad I did.

Loved his earlier stuff and spent hours listening to Diamond Dogs on the crappiest turntable ever in my room as a kid.

Thanks for the music and the memories, David.

    A very sad day.

I grew up with Bowie's music. I had all his 70's albums on vinyl (some I had to buy twice, I played them so often) and now have many on CD and MP3. I still love his music and feel lucky that it's been a part of my life. I owe my eclectic taste in music to Bowie.

His music and influence will live on.

Although it's terrible, I'm glad I read it here first.

I saw David Bowie at the height of his popularity in 1983, the Serious Monlight tour at Sullivan Stadium with my brother (on his birthday) and my best friend, a few days before beginning my senior year of high school. He was a legend then. I remember my brother was not a huge fan of Space Oddity as a young kid, like he was really spooked by that song.
I also saw the Tin Machine a few years later and it was the loudest thing I ever heard up until that time, or since.

I'll be listening to Sound+Vision today.

Even my kids are bummed he passed away. They became fans because of the Gaurdians of the Galaxy soundtrack and Moonage Daydream is my 3 year olds favorite song on there. He loves singing that he's an alligator.

    Rest in peace :disappointed:

The serious moonlight show I saw in Hartford from the 15th row in 1983 still ranks as a top 5 performance for me. RIP Mr. Bowie. You were amazing.

Well I just denied it and will again.........

Anyway, Massive shame about Bowie. Pretty much blanket coverage on radio and TV in England and with good cause too.

Very sad. I saw him only once, in 1996, and even if then I was into totally different music, I was blown away by his elegance and radiance on stage. He reminds me of my stepdad, they are the same age and have the same intellectual air around them. So I always felt a connection.
I saw this was twittered, and found it a perfect sentiment. May you rest in peace...

  • I didn't get into Bowie til later on. I knew him as that dude from the labrinyth when I was a kid. Then I saw Ed do Golden Years with Neil Finn and that supergroup he put together in New Zealand in 2001 or 2002. After that I really got into him. He was a true artist. RIP.

my turntable is currently down otherwise I would be joining you.. my gf's mother gave us some vinyl last year she had stored in the attic and it had a ton of bowie... it was fun diving into those lp's... I will revisit them when I get a new TT setup
  • I haven't felt this down about an artist dying since Freddie Mercury in 91'. I don't care who you are, Bowie's music had an effect on everyone, no matter what musical genre you're into.

Let's dance album with Nile Rodgers and Stevie Ray Vaughan....my noise of choice today.
